Having a car auction when a storm comes is a bad idea...

Post by Haganracing » Wed Jan 27, 2010 1:24 am

I know quite a few are aware of Barrett Jackson auctions and the cars that go across the bidding block there. Russo and Steele is another that was gaining more popularity among the car crowd. They were holding thier auction in Arizona when a storm hit. This was no normal storm to Arizona and packed tornado like winds that knocked down the tents along with the 12 ft steel poles holding them up. Here are some of the carnage pictures of what were some truly nice collectible cars.

I kinda laughed at the squashed Z, but everything else made me sad :( That silver car with the V-12 looked bad ass!

After the storm at the Carlisle Corvette show a few years back, I have had a fear of something like this happening while we are all at the fairgrounds there... Such a shame, all of those beautiful cars.

Wow, that is just crazy. Looks like someone took a bat and beat that black Trans-Am. I'd hate to see who has to foot the bill.

Poor Mopars.

remind me on a car show here a few years ago standing around and talking - when suddenly the big tent (pavillon) next to me started to fly over me and land directly in front of my car.
That was soooooo close - but nothing happend.

wow...that is depressing. Good thing most of those cars are fixable just might not be able to hold the same value since some parts might not match exactly....

Looks like my Chevelle will go up in value ever so slightly....

I bet they were wishing they wouldn't gone through Barrett-Jackson instead, lol.

That really sucks though, I know I would've been absolutely sick if any one of those cars were mine. There were quite a few of cars in there that would be extremely hard to find parts for, especially that old Corvette race car.

The black one ?? Yes, I think that was the worst one.
It's amazing how much damage that one had.

20 years ago at Brainerd Int'l Raceway in MN a tornado came thru during the afternoon on a racve day, on the ground. Cars, trucks and trailers with cars inside rolled upside down, etc. There is a tunnel that goes under the track right about the starting line. Almost everyone on the property was herded into the tunnel, very packed. It's about 8' wide and open on each end with just stairs going up. Lots of trees blown down with damage to everything on that part of the property. Same kind of deal, shit happens.

It's good to know that they HAVE this 'tunnel' available.

Is this the same place that they used to have the annual "MoPars in the Park" show ??

As for scheduling the auction..... These are planned months in advance, so it is hard to predict when a storm is going to brew up.

No, the car show was in Shakopee at a paved oval track, south of Minneapolis. Brainerd is about 120 or so miles north of there. Drag strip and ~2 1/2 mile road course. I remember going there in the early '70s with the folks to watch Paul Newman race on the road course.
