has anyone installed a sunroof in a 02 ?

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

i asked about this a while ago and decided not to do it simply cuz there is extra bracing and otherdetails that would be better left to a shop who does it professionallly

There is an addage that come to mind..."If you cut a hole in your roof, it will leak"

While there are companies that can install a good sunroof for you, trying to put a factory sunroof in your car would be pointless. Take a good look at the roof on a sunroof equiped car and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I can honestly say that anytime i've heard someone who has gotten an aftermarket power sunroof installed in their car, 100% of them have had leaking issues down the road. And most of these have been done professionally with warranties and all that jazz. My word of advice for you.....If it didn't come with one from factory DON'T BOTHER.

^ That's more work than it's worth IMO.....not to mention seriously messing with structural integrity. Cars with sunroofs have extra bracing in their frame rails.

Not to mention that unless you have a full frame machine to secure the body completly (and even that isn't a sure bet), once you cut the roof off the body will flex and will not be straight again. This is why if a Neon is in an accident that involves a roof buckle it is totaled, even if the damage isn't that great.

Can it be done? Sure. Should it be? No.

You can replace the sheet metal (skin) fine, but cutting the entire roof off? I wouldn't want that car.

This. I don't care who you are I would never buy a car that had it's roof replaced just so you could have a sunroof....that's crazy. If you want a sunroof that bad, have one installed from a Webasto (or other company) LICENSED facility. There is specific training that goes into it. Very few shops that install them are actually licensed to do so.
