tire recommendations

Post by chr1s » Sun Feb 07, 2010 1:30 am

since the summer is coming anytime soon in the following months in las vegas, does anyone recommend a good set of tires that are for the stock nSRT4 rim??

well not to pricey and not cheap. just moderate.

right now i am using the Kumho Ecsta ASX. (well they came with the car when purchased) i do like the tires. they are hold up pretty well. i was just wondering if anyone tried anything else that would be better for a decent price.

yeah in the vegas heat goes from a steady 100 degrees all the way up to 110 degrees.

I'd stick with an AA A tire then for the temperature rating. I prefer BFG G Force sports they have excellent dry handling and their price isn't too insane either. I got almost 80k out of my first set, keep in mind I baby my car, and when I bought my new rims I went with the same tires.

LilSparkPlug- ill definitely keep the rating in mind.

Yeah I actually was thinking about the same tires too. The BFG Gforce. Didn't they come stock with the SRT when bought brand new?? I do like the look of the tread on them as well. Do they hold up well in the winter a well?

I also baby the car. But I do "play" once and a while. Lol.

contagious18- yeah I also heard they do last pretty long. Do they also hold up pretty well in the winter?

If you looking for an all season the Kumho ASXs that you already have are a pretty good tire. Stay away from the ASTs. The G Force Sports A/S are also a good tire but will cost more then the Kumhos.

The normal G Force sports (The non AS ones) wont do well if you run into snow. They have no sipes ans dont even have a m+s rating.

The size required on the SRT rims, (205/45/17 or 205/40/17) dont have to many all season tires to pick from. Well at least descent priced ones. You could get bridgestones, or conti but expect to pay a good chunk of change.

^ he's looking for summer tires and he's from Las Vegas.

BFGs all the way. I loved my KDWs but i do think the sports are a little cheaper. If i wasn't going for all out grip for autox i would be getting the BFG KDWs again.

I didnt look at his location. He asked about a A/S and questioned their performance in winter. So I kinda assumed snow.

According to my phone they are going to have a low of 54* for the next week. (*cough* dicks, thats a nice spring day here in MI *cough*) I would say your safe to run summer tires all year long, but if temps drop real low or you do have snow/sleet I would get an A/S.

for the winter i prefer snow tires.. i had a terrible time last winter with my all seasons. and snow tires made a world of difference.. I think crystal was talking about some firestone tires she got for the yellow car. I found them online for 62/tire.. but don't quote me.. idk if the price differs for different areas.

Firestone winterforce for $59/tire in 185/65R15 :) they rock! The SRTs came with BFG GForce KDW-II and they're terrible (IMO). They have a horrible wear rating and don't last long at all, not to mention they sing at 45mph.

^ I will say they were a bit loud but OMG did those tires grip. The compound worked great for dry pavement and when the rain came down in sheets I never felt more comfortable from hydroplaning than in the KDWs.

I hydroplaned in KDW IIs....the result from that was terrible. I fear those tires. :( I will give you that they grip though, they do that damn well.....they just don't last long

I will recomend the Kumhos as a good tire choice for the money. For winter use I had the ASXs and for summer I used the SPTs.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

That's surprising, you must have had lots of tire wear at the time u hydroplaned.

I remember the first time a drove home from the garage that had just mounted the tires. When i would turn the wheel, pebbles would hit my mirrors because they were so sticky.

ahhhh for sure. i definitely understand what everyone is saying.

its a lil difficult to pick a good set. only thing is, i guess, just try a set and see if they fit me. but i might just end up replacing the Kumho's that are currently on the car of maybe go with the BFG that LSP previously mentioned.

have you ever looked at the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110.they are ultra high performance. i used those for about 2 months.. and loved them. didnt make one bit of noise. they are nice summer tires. gripped really good. im using them again on my coming summer rims. they must be getting good on orders for them because the price has gone up.

i originally paid $89 each for the tires. now they are $105.

http://tinyurl.com/Hankook-tires
they got all kinds of sizes. the thread on them looks nice and beefy. i got the 215/45 and they look amazing.

I'll never own a set of Good Years ever again. The set that came on both my Neon (Eagle LS) and Prius (Integrity) sucked.

I'm not saying I won't own Goodyears again, but they are way overpriced, for what they are.

imma chime in and say i enjoy my bfgs too.. i have the gforces and i like them a lot. i think they can be loud.. but over the tires i had before they give more cushion and make for a softer ride. They also grip well and give good rain grip and performance as well..

hey i am reviving my old thread from the dead so i wouldn't have to creat another one.

anyways, a guy who works for the tire business offered me a brand new set of 4 BFGoodrich G-Force all season tires for $588.00. The price includes all four tires, mounting, and balancing.

I'm going for a size just a tad bit bigger one my stock SRT rims which is 215 50 17. (the stock size is 205 50 17)

Any inputs? do you think for the price they are worth it for everything? or should i just keep looking around for a better deal?

+1 on the Kumho AST's... I've had them only about 2 years and 18k miles and they are worn...and noisy. Hope to get thru the summer then new tires in Fall...they are also terrible in snow

In my experience, "upsizing" tires is almost always a benefit to the car.

Not only does it noticeably improve handling, but it makes a noticable improvment to ride, as well.

I can't comment on the price, since I've never shopped BFGoodrich tires recently.
I can say that I have had BFGoodrich tires in the past, and I was satisfied with them.
Hopefully, someone else can comment. Free bump for you !

^^ lol thanks NickKo for the bump.

yeah true. that's what everyone keeps advicing, the bigger tire (but NOT 225) ill improve handling and a grip.

yeah i was more concerned for if "the price is right" on these tires?
