Broken Glass-Project Bottlefed Update#1

Post by Broken Glass » Wed Feb 17, 2010 4:05 pm

Hey guys. I figured itd be time to start up a project thread for my car. I bought it in 06 used from a dealer, completely stock. Its a 2003 SXT blaze red MTX

Image

From then its been through a few different phases but ill skip ahead to where she is now.

Unfortunatly i havnt taken many pictures in the past so that is the most recent one i have of the outside. Fairly typical neon stuff. Mopar lip kit. SRT wheels RT style dual exhaust.(note last 2 pictures are before exhaust) Painted black strip between taillights.
The tails used to be tinted until a PMSing cop decided to ticket me for them, but i digress. they are on the list of things to re-do when i get the chance.

As for the engine I have fairly Large plans. I decided to go with a nitrous build since i havnt seen very many people do it "right" At the moment it has the usual intake UDP, motor mounts, throttle body, Battery has been relocated to the trunk in the sealed and vented box per NHRA standards. The nitrous tank and blow down tube are mounted opposite in the trunk as well. The fogger, soloniods including purge have been mounted.
Image

I have a mag intake mani, crane CD ignition with TRC, Comp 400 with valve springs, Harland RPM and window switches to control it. all waiting to go in. I will eventually Fab a tray to mount the ignition and harlan switches on to go where the battery was. At the moment I am in college in fantastic snowy Oswego, so the car sits at home in my parents garage all safe. I am heading to home for the weekend to hopefully install the cam and valve springs and pick up a set of slicks from my friend. so expect an update soon! I shall leave you with a picture of how she sits now

I like it, I've always been a fan of the "clean, sleeper" look. IIRC, BRR sells the trays you're talking about fabbing up to sit where the battery was. You might want to get in touch with him and have him set you up with one, unless you're planning on doing your own style.

At the moment the vent isn't fully complete but ill take a picture to show you what I mean. I just need to extend the tube a few inches.

Thanks 2001, ill have more pics up tonight!

Thanks Alex. I've seen those floating around. The plan at the moment is to Fab it myself and have a local powdercoat it for me. If all else fails I might end up picking one up tho

Alright so i decided to take the head off because swaping valve springs is a giant pain with the head on. So im ordering a new valve spring compressor, gaskets and headstuds. Ill update later when i post the pictures from today

You should get a long tube header. Are you running 1 or 2 step colder spark plugs? If not thats the next thing I would do ASAP

You will need a better clutch when you start stepping up the nitrous. A PT cruiser clutch stock will hold 270WTQ in our cars.

I'd always thought an NGC car would be great on nitrous. Great manners off the bottle, and the ECU can't pull all the fuel from the solenoid on the bottle.

I loved running my car with a 65 shot, the 90 shot was when things got scary. Do you have a remote bottle opener? Also, I never had a purge, how does it get set up?

I actully have a PT cruiser clutch in there now. I burned out the old one when i was first driving it. Thats exactly my plan. Id love to DD a 300 WHP car but its just something i cant bring myself to do with college to pay for. I dont have a remote bottle opener. No plans for one unless i find a good deal as i planning on running it mainly at the track. Although the purge would be fun for stoplight fun. The purge goes right before the solonoid for the nozzle. the purge kit includes a T adaptor for the 2nd solonoid.
Image You can see the purge solonoid is flat or horizontal, while the solonoid for the actual fogger is upright. the closer the purge solonoid to the fogger, the more air that can be purged out of the system. the Those two thin black tubes are the tubes for the purge, its set up to look like a bull nose coming out of the front girll. hopefully i can get pictures of it soon.

Ahh gotcha, I never ran a purge, I just purged it through the motor (not very safe if you don't know what to do). I'd just hold the RPM's around 2500, then whap the gas pedal, let it come back to idle, do it maybe 2 or 3 times, and the line is purged. Only had to do it once at the track, if I left the line open, it was good to go.
