Hard to shift at high RPMs
Hard to shift at high RPMs
Like the title says I'm having a hard time shifting ot high RPMs. When I push the clutch in and try to shift into the next gear it dosen't want to go.
Any ideas?

And also for the hell of it, try shifting with out the clutch, as in rpm matching. Just get to the speed you would normally shift, and as you let up on the gas, pull gently to the next gear, but not too slowly. It should pop into the next gear. That would tell you that the MTX is prolly not the issue. Like I said, be gentle. You don't want to grind gears badly, or rip the rod ends off the shifter cables. If it is going to go in, it will. You may get a little mild grind, till you get the feel for it. Mine will do this flawlessly in all but third. Third has to be dead nuts perfect to shift clutchless. But that could just be mine. They all have their individual quirks.

Well i was out driving the car hard last night and not shifting untill 6500 and no problem ?!?! I have no idea whats going on it seems like when I try to get it to mess up it wont. But the other day when I was on the moutain it didn't want to shift maybe it has something to do with when it gets hot ?

Is it up shifts, or down? Down shifting can be difficult, if the speed is too high for the desired gear. Mine will shift into 1st at 90 mph, but most will not. I wouldn't recommend letting the clutch out tho.
This was a problem, before Booger bushings. 1st and 3rd were easily mixed up. When down shifting into 3rd, I had to be careful how I let the clutch out. It only took once to learn that. And no, it was not at 90 mph. It was about 55 mph, still enough to zing the engine very well.

Heat can cause the trans to be hard to shift. Spirited driving can wear the selector pads off and introduce slop into the system, making it harder and harder to shift.
A maddog STS with rod brake is your best friend in this case. It will keep you from overshifting it so you don't wear the pads. If they are worn however, you only have 3 options; new trans; new selector rails; and welded, then machined selector rails. Welding then machining is the ultimate upgrade, every gear is right where it needs to be, no slop(especially with a maddog sts too) and it will work just fine, everytime, forever.

The only other thing I can think of is some part of the hydraulic system. My avenger did that when the master and slave cyl. started giving out.
Then again, it also did it when the trans got really heated up at the track. If it's not slipping then I would suspect the clutch.
What fluid are you using in the trans?

i have boogers bushings on the cables and the fluid was changed about 20,000 miles ago I put Mopar ATF4 back in it. I do plan on changing to a STS in the future and have Drakito rebuild it when my turbo build gets underway but for now I cant park it and tear it apart yet.

I wish they used the dsm style hydraulic setup instead of this sealed slave/master unit we're stuck with. With the dsm style you could bleed the system really easy, and modify the fluid pressure by modding the restrictor spring/plate in the slave.
I belive Esteinmaier makes a dsm retro-fit hydraulic setup that is far superior to our setup.
