Prothane Control Arm Bushing Question

Post by GunmetalNeon » Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:44 am

I bought a control arm prothane bushing kit for my 2003 sxt and I lost the instructions on how to install them. I'm unsure of the rear bushings, Does the bigger bushing on the back of the control arm go on the bottom and the smaller one go on the top or vise versa?

IIRC the bushings themselves should be labeled top or bottom.

A squeaking sound is a typical sound from these kind of bushings if that is what you are referring to.

What sounds are you hearing?

The top hat is the top part of the strut. It has three bolts that connect the strut to the car at the top inside the engine bay.

it is held on to the strut shaft itself with a single bolt (in the center of the whole system)

Typically when one speaks of the top hat being bad they are referring to the barrings being bad. The top had should be able to move and shift around on the shaft, however tightly and with out play. Its kind of difficult to describe, but I think you'll be able to figure out the difference.
