Fleece is better than felt. It stretches nicely over a shape to give you nice curves.

You can use both. The fleece is nicer as you can stretch it very tight over say a speaker ring to get you that nice shape. I usually use the fleece for the shape then go to matting myself.

Of the few people I have had back there. No one hit their head on them. Although I am sure if I played with the air ride some I could get them to haha.

I RARELY have rear seat passengers in my neon. And for the "back seat pleasures" well if we plan on that we don't take my neon. We take one of our other 3 cars lol. Much more comfy. I think I will be building a big air tank set up back there anyway so no passengers will even be able to sit back there sooner or later.

the fabric used is just to get the shape of the item you are building. you coat it with a layer of resin and it will harden once dry and give you a solid surface to start laying down the fiberglass.

one common mistake is thinking the fabric used adds to the strength of the structure but it does not. it takes mat or cloth to build up layers and strength. fleece is probably the most used fabric but it is far from the best to use. fleece is kind of thick and it soaks up a ton of resin, which is quite expensive. i have found that lycra is a much better material to use - it is thinner, lighter, it stretches 1000x better than fleece and once dry it is as smooth as glass (less work later). you want a material that is VERY stretchy to allow you to pull it tight and avoid having any ripples or waves, which will only make you have to do more work to smooth them out.

here are some shots showing the fabric i use:

starting to cover it

fully covered. you can see how thin this stuff is once fully stretched - you can see right through it

it is now covered in a layer of resin to make it hard and give me a surface to apply the mat to

Dan, I'd forgotten about your 'glass skillz... care to help me out with a sub enclosure project I'm considering?

Nineball put into words what I was too lazy to type out. And I will have to try that type of fabric. Thanks for the suggestion. THat is one thing i have always hated about the fleece is it is thick and soaks up a ton of resin.

And I am sure we could work something out dude.
