Totaled...

Post by aperson » Mon Mar 01, 2010 11:05 pm

So I got into an accident last Thursday because some asshole ran a red light and I hit him in the side, I was coming into the intersection, checked the light twice and after the second time I looked down and he was right there. It was green both times. But somehow his light was green too. :tardbang: I got the call yesterday that insurance is totaling the car. They're giving me $5k for Shelia (my '03 SXT) Buyback is $500 so I'm considering it and repairs would have only been $3800 w/parts. If I source my own parts it's more like $2k to straighten out the front end again.

My ideal plan would be to buy the car back, give that to my parents to replace their rusted out '01 Windstar and buy a WRX. No dealers in my area have any that are up for grabs, does anybody know of a decent Subie forum or anybody in the central NY areawhere I may be able to find one?

EDIT: Also she won't start anymore, the only thing that is broken on the motor or trans is one sensor on the front of the trans to the far driver side. Is this the neutral safety switch on the 4spd?

Be sure to add pics to the wrecked neons thread
Sorry to hear about the loss, I'd say source the parts used and you could cut thr cost of repair to half if not less...

If it got hit in the left front, I wouldn't be surprised if the impact took out the PCM. (which could explain the no-start condition)

I'm really hoping that the PCM is okay, I can't see it well the way it is now, but I also think that the neutral safety switch is broken, there's one sensor/switch that is on the front of the trans that is broken off. Everything shuts off in the car like it's going to crank but all I get is a red dot on the top right of the cluster. I hope that's all it is.

Isn't the red dot the SKIM warning? That wouldn't be a good sign for the PCM.

I'll have pics of the carnage once it's delivered back home sometime this week. Nothing a frame shop can't fix, and the estimate I got from the dealer I took it to was only $3800. So the adjuster saw it, and said totaled, the guy didn't even have an estimate done. Oh well, I get to fix this and get another car now!
