o2 bung location for wideband

Post by Caraudioholic24 » Wed Mar 10, 2010 12:58 pm

Hey everyone. I did a search and couldn't find much. I have an OBX shortie/mid header. I am keeping my stock cat for now soooo I may want to run a Wideband gauge down the road. I have one location for the stock o2 sensor now right at the end of the header near the flange.

My question is if weld the wideband o2 bung in the same vicinity will it be sufficient for a good reading or should I go somewhere else? I want to do it now and seal it before I install it so I dont have a problem later on if I do decide to get the gauge. Also whats the best wire I should ask for?? Stainless steel? I found this bung which is what Im after since it has a cover that bolts on.

Thanks in advance for the help.

it would make sense to put it on the collector so that the sensor gets an accurate reading from all of the cyl and not just 1 if you put it on one of the runners.

i dunno if there is a difference in reading if you put it closer to the cat or not, I cant imagine much difference

It doesnt matter how close to the cat is is, as long as its before the cat. and i agree with r/t guy as put it on or after the collector

If welding it into a stainless header, have it TIG welded in with stainless filler rod. Going into the down pipe, I would go the same route. The factory piece is 400 stainless. MIG welding would work, but IDK if stainless is an option there. Most apps I have seen they use regular steel wire, or aluminum. Stainless is generally TIG welded.

MIG welding it into the down pipe/header would work fine, the weld will just rust is all. It would take a long time to fail. It just won't look pretty.

I just wasn't sure about:
Also whats the best wire I should ask for?? Stainless steel?
if that was a reference to having it welded.

Isn't the OBX stainless? Paint will just make it ugly as it burns off. It will out last the car if it is stainless, and doesn't crack.

If anyone is looking for a decent bung at a great price here you go. That 1st listing wants 10 bux just to ship. Idiots.
