rad fan & temp questions

Post by vg30_s12 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:11 am

ok, 04 R/T, can someone show me or describe to me where exactly the fan wires should be going? the PO took the car to Moron, who decided to "fix" the fan to be wired strait to the battery so to correct an overheating problem. Id like to fix this in the proper manner and not half arse it

also, where is normal operating temp on the temp gauge? i was figuring 1/2 way, but some cars can be different. i just want to make sure the car isn't overheating[/quote]

mine climbs one needle-width over the 1/3 mark.

off-topic: looking at the speedometer from CGneon, am i correct that it only goes to 120miles/200km an hour?? mine (export) goes up to 150miles/240km an hour... what's the deal with that?

Because the export neons get all the nice features. In the early to mid eighties, cars sold in the States weren't allowed to have speedometers that registered above 85 MPH.

CGneon's gauge is about where mine is normally. If I get time later today, I'll post up a wiring diagram for the cooling fan(s).

point taken :lol:
my MTX tops at 210km/h (130miles/h), but the speedometer reads 225kmh (130m/h) by that time..

If I recall correctly, I learned from previous threads on these forums that the temp gauge is buffered and so isnt really accurate for realtime purposes. In other words, its useless.

I doubt the engine temp would rise much faster than the gauge will move anyways. It is buffered to keep ppl from freaking out over the fluctuations when the T'stat opens/closes.

Now back to the regularly scheduled topic...

You will need to locate the wires, and reconnect them to the fan. Hopefully "Moron" did not cut them totally out of the harness.

PDC = underhood fuse/relay box.

The underside of the cover should tell you where the relay is for the fan.

My highest temp is about one needle above the 1/3 line, normally is at the 1/3 line.
