eBay UDP v. MPx UDP
Differences? Thoughts?
How did it compare to having the larger stock pulley?
Any of you install one without the A/C option?
What is the belt number for no A/C eBay UDP?

I have the af/x and I can feel a pretty nice difference on acceleration. As for the ebay ones, the belt sizes will probably vary. For the mpx you should call modern to see if they can answer that for you otherwise it might just be trial and error.

Essentially it's the same thing. These ebay companies usually take an existing product and clone it since they can have it manufactured cheaper. Aside from that, it's pretty much the same product.
It's like all the OBX products, they just clone the best products and sell them dirt cheap. Some are not quite as good like the LSD, but the UDP is simple and shouldn't be any different than say and Unorthodox UDP.

I doubt the ebay one is made of the same high grade aluminum, not to mention the balance and roundness could be questionable, which could be very bad news.

^ Yeah, I asked about that in the eBay review thread. I always figured weight would play a factor, but I guess it really doesn't matter in this case (so I read). The eBay one I got feels just as sturdy as stock, and my stock one is OLD (160k) and pretty worn / possibly crooked. My mechanic said that even if this quality is slightly less than stock, it'll last just as long as stock, if not more. I'm going to go ahead and trust the eBay one. If I feel the need to upgrade later, I'll get the MPx one, since it has belts and all figured for you. Sometimes, budget building is FTW Derek. Rofl. Even w/ eBay.

My definition of budget is saving patiently for quality parts, and obviously trying to get good deals on them. Many people have a different idea. All I'm saying is that having an imbalance on the crank, however minor, DOES make a difference. They don't design and machine them to balance to a certain tolerance for no reason. There's also the chance of heat warpage in lower quality alloys.
Heck, the MPX pulley is what, $110? Not exactly a second mortgage.

I would just get the MPx pulley. This way you are sure to get the right belt size for you're car without any problems.
I have the MPx underdrive and love it.

By that logic alone, the underdrive pulley is a bad choice. There isn't any torsional dampening like the OEM pulley/dampner. The oscillations not cancelled out are prolly worse than a bit of out of balance at the pulley end of the crank. The load placed on the crank from firing, is far more than a tenth of an ounce spinning 2.5" from the centerline of the crank. The UDPs are prolly closer to balance than the stock pulley, as it is made of heavier material, that is farther from the crank centerline.OB wrote: All I'm saying is that having an imbalance on the crank, however minor, DOES make a difference.
There is just not enough mass in them to have anymore influence than the factory rotating assy tolerances. If we were spinning it at 12,000 rpm, it may be a little more important, but for the average guy on the street, I doubt it is going to hurt much. If you are using it for race only, then by all means, go with the good stuff. Racing is not for budget minded ppl. A true performance part for this isn't made. Something like Fluid Dampr, or the like that has actual dampening qualities would be the true performance piece. But most neon owners would not shell out $500 for one. Prolly why there aren't any available.
Besides the fact that there are few failures due to UDP's on these engines. There may be some shortened bearing life, but it obviously isn't a huge factor.

Just like what everyone else said, doesn't seem to be much difference. I'm sure you are going to get what you pay for, but I don't see it being enough of a difference to worry about.
I was going to get an ebay one for my 1gn. But I ended up getting an unorthodox for $60. Nice thing about that is it's for a 1gn. Not 56 different cars like ebay says. It tells you exactly what belts to run. It also has step by step instructions guiding you to heat the pulley, and put ice on the crank.
Ebay isn't going to give you that stuff, but for anyone that has done it before, you don't need it.

Well, like Derek said, the MPx is only $129 or so, and it comes with the belts, which is nice. I think someone on here got it with the wrong belts, so there's a small delay, but I know MPx would have straightened that out.
Also, I pinch my money a LOT and I feel as though I'm on extreme budget modding. Only reason I went through with this whole UDP thing is because I landed one free (shipping errors FTW) so it's only cost me the price of two belts (~$25) so to me, it's still worth all that.

neverenoughauto = possible generic picture. There are UDP's available without the accessory drive groove. They will only run the alternator. This may be what they are showing, all the different options/types/applications in one pic for all apps.dutch animal wrote: can anyone tell me what the difference is between these ... they look sooo different ??

I really couldn't say what you may actually get. Maybe you could email them to see if they could send you an actual picture?

I'm not 100% sure the cover will clear the three ears to come off. I think you still need to pull the hub.acr wrote: If I ever have to replece the timing belt again or water pump all I have to do is take the three bolts off and the pulley comes out leaving the center bolt on.

It doesn't. Most people trim the cover some for it to fit.occasional demons wrote:I'm not 100% sure the cover will clear the three ears to come off. The Ebay units look exactly like the UR unit. Except there isn't any name engraved into them. They run around $40 ish, plus shipping.dutch animal wrote:http://www.modernperformance.com/unorth ... -1800.html

Edit: Dutch Animal, if yours is an '02, it might get a CEL, but IDK if that would apply to export PCM's or not. The brand of UDP will not make any difference with the CEL. (P0300, or any from P0300 to P0304 Misfire code)

You shouldn't have an issue with the '01. And no, there isn't a way that has been 100% foolproof in tricking the PCM. This is mainly an '02 issue tho.

prolly overall quality. Not saying the cheap thing is bad, but not as good as the MPx or UR one.
It's like the company i work for: we buy in china because it's really, *really* cheap, and for 90% of our customers the parts work satisfactory because they don't need the extreme high quality local companies provide
