can not recommend enough to go buy a scanguage II............... reads codes, clears codes, and u can monitor so much real time live its rediculous.... sits right on top of my sterring console.. rpm/mph/gph/coolant temp/Manifold pressure/horsepower/engine load/throttle position sensor/ miles to empty/ o2 sensors up and down steam/voltage/etc etc... much more.. plugs into ur obd port under drivers dash area and i have the cord comin up through behind the sterrin column..

the scanguage will work on any car with an odb2 port, so basically any car..... it takes 2min to take the cord out if i need to move it to another car.... all i did was plug the cord in, then put it through the bottom plastic of th drivers dash, you can see it witht he fuse panel cover off on the side, so its not a hardwired permanent install.. can move it whenever...

I'd recommend an OBDII interface ELM327 unit for your laptop if you have one. The possibilities are endless software-wise, and you can datalog too, which is cool. I got my interface and demo software for $30 on ebay. Now I just need some decent software since the demo ones only read codes and clear the CEL. Their logging capabilities are limited.

2004 SE... doin it one piece at a time
The software is available through lots of companies, probably 100's of versions are out there. To be honest I have yet to buy real software for it, so I don't know which one is best or have any experiences to share. The demo stuff came with the interface cable, and it works fine for the basics. You won't be doing any tuning with any of this stuff, it's just pure monitoring equipment. Just google ELM 327 OBDII interface, or something along those lines.cbjones26 wrote:i dont have a laptop but the gf has a netbook, Toshiba something. what are the requirements for a laptop ? and where do i get software from?

doh im retarded, missed the link, even in the quote:P the only diff i see from the economy monitor is that one is it gives u 0-60 1/4 1/8 60ft times, and torque, which is not gonna be accurate anyway since its just goin off a ummmmm what do u call it, gyroscope? i had a thing that did that, cant recall the name, was a fun little toy to play with but i didnt put too much stock in it.. and was a pita to use.,,,,,
the gas tuner looks interesting, but i wouldnt waste 400$ on it... says u can advance or retard timing, not sure what "transmission tuning" u will accomplish....
not to mention those displays look big as shit, u got to mount it to the winddhield like a gps? no thank you...

x2 on the scangauge. you can display way more than whats on the stock cluster, without adding extra gauges. and if you get a newer one with the x gauge you can add more gauges to it with a little programming. it reads codes, and you can set it up to show what kind of gas mileage your getting and when you can see what you are using you can use less (if thats your thing).
if your looking for just a code reader, walmart has a innova obd2 scanner that can be hooked to a pc to tell you whats wrong and how much the parts and all that fancy crap for $99
and if you go into any advance auto, auto zone, pep boys etc... usually they check codes for free. (cause they know that you'll need part$, lol)

LilSparkPlug wrote:Why not just cycle the key three times from off to ACC? The odometer tells you the code after that sequence. Then print out an NGC code list (from these forums) and check it yourself. If you want to clear it, reset the battery or pull the ASD fuse.
Saves a shit ton of money
its mostly for use on other family members vehicles, i know how to pull the codes off the neon , but when i try it on like my dads nissan or his sonoma it doesnt display any codes. and i cant take his truck to autozone or any place else the truck wont start running.! lol

ya thats what i have.. i have horsepower and o2 sensors up and down programmed into it... fun stuff........ i think the guages i display the most are volt, coolant temp, throttle position sensor and Manifold pressure... but can change with just a button:P and can change the backlighting too red green purple blue yellow etc.. also has R-G-B control so u can make a custom shade u want..
that ebay link i posted ends in 1.5hrs, 76$ is a steal for that...

I have a Bluetooth OBD dongle on order that I should be getting any day now so that I can check and clear codes on my Droid. Both OBDII Android apps that are out are promising real-time gauges "soon" but who knows when that'll actually be. Whichever is first gets the cash.
