If it was a test mule, they wouldn't bother with bling.

I am curious if it has a Magnum head tho.

Nice score! From what I can see, there doesn't appear to be any MTV on that intake. But it does have some kind of spacer between the upper and lower half.

Be careful when pulling it apart (if you do)...it may be had to find a gasket for that beast. Unless you make one.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Dude. Post this on neons.org please. I wonder if someone on there has more info on it. I'm glad you didnt' get the ULEV mani, the ULEV motors have the NGC low compression, and lower on power.

Blocked EGR's were done by 2001. They blocked them off for the 00's and 01's.

Edit:
Hey man, give me a build date on that block too!!

It is there, if you notice the standoffs, there is a lever there, but just what they used to turn the shaft is anybody's guess.

Edit:Looking again, a standard MTV motor may bolt up, but the third stand off is what throws me, unless there should be a brace there.

So I measured the exhaust ports on the head, and they come out to approx 1.5". I need to get a better caliper to measure with, but I will confirm that later.

I don't know wtf it is, or what I am going to do with it yet, but I am sure I will find something fun for it...

I don't really do the .org alot Jerry, feel free to steal my pics and post up to see what they say over there. I will grab better high res pics of it and any markings and measurements I can find when I get some free time this week.

The only non R/T piston/rod assy listed for '00-'02 is 4897642AB, so the compression would have to be the same. I think the ULEV was just the exhaust system, and maybe PCM tune.
Canada wrote:So I measured the exhaust ports on the head, and they come out to approx 1.5". I need to get a better caliper to measure with, but I will confirm that later.
R/T ports are 1 3/8, so it is prolly a ported R/T casting. Now if they made a mold for even larger ports, then you could bet there is more than one head in existence.

04884098AA I think is what is cast into my R/T '00 head casting. I would need to go out tomorrow and confirm that. ("00" being the casting date)

Which is interesting, because 4884089AA/4884089AB is the R/T exhaust gasket number.

I am definitely going out to check.

Hmm I just tried to find casting numbers on the head and the only one I could really find is 4556737 FA.

O and the exhaust ports looked ported?

Confirmed.

silversport, to someone that has access to pre production raw part numbers, it may.

Usually a part has various numbers from the time it is cast to the time is machined, and ready for a specific application.

Those are just damn clean ports. They are "as cast" exhaust ports.

Edit: If you want clearer pics, back up a bit, and crop them with your picture editing software. Basically what I did with the casting number close up. If the paint wasn't so shiny, it would be a little better.

If you have Windows, you should have Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Good enough for me.

They look ported to me. (Esspecially since some marking dye is still on the flange surface.)

Standard head that's been ported. Or a completley one-off head, that's been ported. It's deffinitly not a "stock" Magnum head (due to the shape of the mounting flange and the ports).

Yeah, now that I played with the pics a bit they have been ported, just nothing on the humps. It was hard to tell from the pics on my screen.

ya sorry guys It's a crappy camera and I was in a hurry. as far as the porting I'm thinking Chrysler engineers ported it to test flow numbers? I'm pretty sure the guy said it wasn't done by hand and that it was factory but doesn't look like that to me. I'm sure my bro will get better pics for you guys. and the timing cover is on so the casting number...

Check for the head part number right next to the coolant temp sensor. That's where it'll likely be with that (non-Magnum) cylinder head.

The magnum head can be differentiated by the "R/T" emblem casted into the head near the thermostat housing / water outlet. And the part number.

Besides that there are easily noticeable differences in the casting.

Image

^ The upper portion on the magnum head exhaust flange surface has bumps that allow room for the larger Magnum gasket.

Image

^ The Magnum exhaust ports have an angled "hump" (which increases the short/long side radius of the port).

The pics you have show a straight flange surface and straight humps.. So it likely started out as a standard head casting and then ported.

Sorry it took so long guys, I have to work and didn't have any free time to take pics, I grabbed a bunch tonight of all markings, numbers, etc I could find on the head and block at full res with my rebel, so they should be easier to figure out now...

I am just uploading about twenty pics, I will have the links momentarily.

Those heater tubes kinda confirm the '98 casting date stamp. It is a 1gn engine.
