5x4 vs 5x100

OK so im looking at buying new wheels for my neon and can get a pretty good deal on some 5x4" bolt pattern 15x7 wheels with 40 offset but here's my question, 100mm is like 3.97 inches im pretty sure that would line up but would I have trouble with 1 lug rubbing or something? I just dont want any fitment issue and want to educate myself before I buy.
Also will 205/55/15s fit OK with that option and stock struts for my 2000?

Where did you find wheels that someone actually referred to them as being 5x4? Who does that?

Yeah, they're the same and should fit, assuming the offset is correct.

He was an older gentleman with about 40 cars that I was creaming my jeans over
But we measured the bolt pattern to be 100% and it was "5 on 4"
Also the offset was roughly 38-40 we measured but used a tape measure so that's always iffy
The offset is what scares me I read the "read this you noob" tire fitment thread but couldn't make heads nor tales of the offset charts ( number dyslexia owns me)

As long as it's not over 40 you should be good. Under 30 might be cutting it close too, so somewhere in the middle is probably best.

100mm is 3.937 BTW

anyway, i wouldn't do it, you wouldn't believe the amount of stress bad alignement can cause!!

i have never seen 5x102 rims!
We have 5x100 or 5x108 - but 4" makes no sense.
And really - if it was measured with tape - it is not really correct!

They're the same, it's just an old school term. I've heard people refer to 5x4 when actually talking about 5x100. Yeah, it's rounded off, but it's slang, kinda. The basis is that most people think there are exactly 25mm in an inch.

It's old school because they actually were 5x4 and 5x4.75 and 5x5 way back when, not rounded off.

I really want to say 5x4 is exactly that, 5x4, not 5x100. I know people have put old A-body mopar (Dodge Dart) wheels onto neons, but I'm not sure if it's totally safe.

Until someone gets some proof that 5x4 and 5x100 are physically different sizes, I'm sticking with my original thought. I'm almost certain that one of the two is "rounded off" and technically incorrect. Who knows though..

Alright, I called wheel vintiques today and had a word wit them about it.
A 4" wheel and a 100 mm wheel are two different animals he said that the 5x4 will bolt right up but the stud will be touching the lip of the bolt circle on some of the lugs and will make them look off center where as 4x100 will fit perfectly centered.
He told me to go ahead and use them but to make sure I check my torque on the lug nuts often as a "fail safe"
Im going to buy the wheels on Friday hopefully and maybe I can get some photos of the difference

5x100mm and 5x4" are not the same pattern and should not be interchanged. The lugs will not seat correctly.
