205/45/17 tires on OEM SRT4 rims for the "05" SXT

Post by prostho » Tue Apr 06, 2010 8:39 pm

Can I use SRT4 oem rims with 205/ 45/17s,without having these tires rub the strut perch and the fender. I am planning on putting SRT4 oem rims on my 05 SXT.
Thank You

You can, but that tire size is suggested to have a 6.5-7.5 wheel width. Expect the tire not to have excellent contact.

With that size tire you would be much better off with a 7" wheel.

they come stock with 205/50/17's dont they, or does the suggested rims size go wider with the low profile.

That is correct. More sidewall allows for the flexing to take place in the sidewall.

If you go to tirerack.com and look at the various sizes you will see the recommended wheel width.

More sidewall - narrower wheel
less sidewall - wider wheel

It's the reason why I can put 235/60 on my 15x7 wheel on my Monte, but 235/40 would probably need at least an 8" wheel.

That's my opinion, but I also don't like SRT wheels.

Add in that they weight >40lbs with tires and its just a loss.

My personal choice would be 205/55 because it's closer to the OEM size of 23.75"

205/55/15 = 23.9"
205/50/15 = 23.1"

I tried on my 215 45 17s on my stock 2001 R/T today and they fit with plenty of clearance. I think the 215's might be worth checking out for you - I think they're more common and cheaper.
My Rides:
2004 SRT-4 - SUBLIME - 55k - Stage 1 and bolt-ons
2003 SRT-4 - RED - 84k

.....7 Neons and Counting.....
