STi owner.
yeh i used dynamat all over my trunk lid and sides and floor of trunk. that got rid of a ton of rattleing. i also put weather stripping inbetween my spoiler and trunk becasue the trunk was vibrating aginst the spoiler. that also helped a lot. then my license plate was rattleing against my bumper so i put some weather stipping on the back of that to keep it form vibrating against the rear. and finally i put weather stipping around my trunk hook where the latch conencts to. i gotta slam the trunk kinda to get it shut good, but it hold its down tight and keeps the latch from vibrating against the hook. after all that my vibration to the trunk was probably about 80-90% gone. there is still soem there but very little. you pretty much ahve to be standing next tot he trunk to hear it and it is very quiet rattle. the weather stripping on the trunk latch is kinda ghetto and i gotta replace it every so often becasue it gets torn up and stuff, but its a temp fix to vibration till i can figure a way to tighting the trun latch so it holds the trunk tight...i heard that a bad thing to do sometimes so who knows. ill probably jsut stick to my ghetto ways, it seems to be working. fuckin g unit doggy!!!!!

I used Dynamat extreme and it worked Ok, however the best thing was to isolate the subs from the trunk. I bulit the box to fit very snugly in (had to kick it in place) an pointed the subs at the back seat basicly it sealed the subs from the trunk....less air pressure less rattle.

Yea, i knew about the dynamat n such, i just thought someone said something about loosening a bolt or something.
i was thinking about turning um towards the front but people already complain about how bad the vibration is in the back seat. Guess i'll just have to live with it, doesn't bother me as much as the people outside just hearing a terribly annoying rattle.the best thing was to isolate the subs from the trunk

No one really rides in the back of my car but those who have sat there when I turned it up complained more about the volume than the free back massage they were getting.

On my old 92 Ford Tempo, i tightned the trunk latch, because it came lose one day, ever since, it would just pop open on its own every once in a while. I traded that car in for my neon, best decision i ever made, lolrefect wrote:yeh i used dynamat all over my trunk lid and sides and floor of trunk. that got rid of a ton of rattleing. i also put weather stripping inbetween my spoiler and trunk becasue the trunk was vibrating aginst the spoiler. that also helped a lot. then my license plate was rattleing against my bumper so i put some weather stipping on the back of that to keep it form vibrating against the rear. and finally i put weather stipping around my trunk hook where the latch conencts to. i gotta slam the trunk kinda to get it shut good, but it hold its down tight and keeps the latch from vibrating against the hook. after all that my vibration to the trunk was probably about 80-90% gone. there is still soem there but very little. you pretty much ahve to be standing next tot he trunk to hear it and it is very quiet rattle. the weather stripping on the trunk latch is kinda ghetto and i gotta replace it every so often becasue it gets torn up and stuff, but its a temp fix to vibration till i can figure a way to tighting the trun latch so it holds the trunk tight...i heard that a bad thing to do sometimes so who knows. ill probably jsut stick to my ghetto ways, it seems to be working. fuckin g unit doggy!!!!!

I have a carbonfiber trunk and that was the only thing that rattled with my audibahn 15 in the trunk. All i did was modified the latch U bolt. I cut it so that the bolt hole wasnt a circle it became a U. I cut the top parts out and know i can move it up and down until i got my trunk to latch tight. And now it doesnt vibrate my trunk.

Its a crappy pic but you can see where i cut it on top on both sides and now it is adjustable. Depends on where you tighten the bolts.

a really easy way to stop some vibrations is by turning a couple of rubber stops under the trunk lid.
If I wanted to get out in the cold for 30 seconds I would tell you exactly where they are but it's -5.
They are either on the trunk lid itself or on the back part of the car above the tail lights.
Turn them until they get the desired tightness from your trunk.
That might help a little

What you are hearing is actually a vent that is hidden in the under the carpeting on the left hand side of the trunk, this is the only rattle that you do not want to fix, this is used for your air conditioning, and also to relieve pressure on the inside of your car when you close the doors. Supposedly without this if this did not exist and you closed your doors it could break a window.

man no one knows about vibrating trunk more than me!...mine sounds like it is going to fall apart to to the rattles. it sounds just like a old metal body nova with a sound system driving around town.....you hear the vibratiions and also see the vibrations. you can also notice that my muffler shakes if you really look. my friend was behind me at a light and noticed it! Mine are terrible!
Id rather have my trunk vibrate a little and stay closed
On my old car W/O a system... my trunk would just randomly open itself up...
I didnt have a remote trunk release either... guess thats what i got for driving a Ford...

I know this is an old post but I had to add one more ghetto way that really helped my old 96 neon's rattle. Just take a little duct tape and go around the trunk latch. Not the one on the trunk lid, the one that's fastened to your body. It really helped a lot on my old car, I don't know how well it'd work on our cars. Just be careful not to put too much on or else you can't close your trunk.

Does anyone know about how much square footage is needed to cover a whole neon in sound dampening material?
