any good systems?
ok well my dad was talking about giving me some cash towards college and some money for a system in my car, because he likes loud music lol! So i want to find a cheap nice system maybe 2 12's? but i have no idea where to look, last year i just went to ABC warehouse with my first neon and paid $389 for one 12 and an amp box and wiring kit, Anyone got any good ideas? i really dont want to spend ever 350 unless it's good not to picky on brand either

one 12" type-x with a proper amp will be more bass than you could ever want. i have one being fed by a pdx 1.1000 and it can make my teeth hurt when i get on it.
this is an older mid-install pic but you get the idea.

and just for shits and giggles here it is with 2 layers of dynamat xtreme on the trunklid and one layer over everything in the trunk and rear floor

so from working at best buy in car audio.. i know that you get what you pay for.. now best buy isnt a top notch car audio place but i see guys walking out with 2 grand worth of shit to do a whole system. car audio isnt a cheap hobby by all means.. a $200 woofer might seem good at the time until you realize you need a $400 amp, $150 in wiring and thats only the minimal. if you arent looking for anything competition go with a single 12" you'll be happy. X type is big talk haha even R is pumpin a shit ton. talk with someone who really knows their shit and isnt on commission because then they will really tell you what you need.

trust me, you don't need 2000 watts to a sub nor can your electrical system even come close to powering it. i have a pdx 1.1000 and 4.100, stinger battery under the hood, kinetik battery in the trunk, all 0g power/ground and 0g engine ground upgrades and i STILL get some dimming when i go over 27/35 on my hu (30/35 is clipping).
type-r is known for being and spl sub - it can take 1k watts daily and will get super loud in a ported box but does not have the best sound quality. type-x is more of a sq sub that when in a properly designed box can get very loud.
$1000-1500 will be a on the low end of the sound system spectrum if done correctly. hell, i have over $400 in sound dampening alone.

what happened to "i don't get money from my parents"? (just a simple question, no need to blow up about it)
but in all reallity, you can have a loud system with just one 12 or two 10's... matter of fact, eric (esteinmeyer) rocked 10's for a long time and they sure were loud.

Yea man, you can get loud enough with a simple set of 10's, but damn, I regret not installing my Type-X 12's when I had the chance.
This is the shit.

I have had a ton of systems in my car and I have a thread about a couple of them, but currently I am running a single powerbass 10" and with a 5 channel powerbass amp, kicker components up front and kicker coaxial in the back. Sounds great and didn't spend a lot for it. The powerbass 10 is good and solid and people swear I am running 2 12's in the back till I pop the trunk. each 10 only requires .8cu ft of sealed airspace and it gets plenty low for me. plus I like loundness and quality but more quality over loudness.
lets just say systems can be had cheap. just gotta know where to look and what to look for. This hole system cost me under three hundred, not including the headunit. And go ahead and flame running two different kinds of subs, young dumb, whatev, but it sounded great, the box was divided, run on two differnt amps.

running on dual Sony xplode 1200 2 channel amps

And this is my current system, 10 inch w3 in a kicker living loud box with some ghetto plywood adapter run on a 1200 sony mono amp. aslo run off stock headunit, this system was under 200. not overly loud but hits good and sounds clean. the box is nowhere near big enough for the sub, but its a quaility sound

^ Nice wire pass thrus
I had my setup for pretty cheap and it was more than enough. I hate it when bass overpowers the mids and highs too much, so it worked perfect for me.
Pioneer 4900UB Headunit - $115 refurbished on ebay w/ ipod cable
6.1/2 and 6x9s RFosgate - $40 Had em from my previous car.
12" RF Punch sub w/ ported enclose - $100
250W RMS (bridged) 2 channel RF amp - $50 refurbished
Wiring kit - $20
A modest setup for around $325 total. I was very happy with it. All of the refurb stuff is still working great. I ended up selling my sub since my trunk is pretty much my garage right now. T

hehe this should be the first post in a thread that should be titled "what not to do in car audio"
1. run different subs
2. run subs in enclosures that are not made to the proper specs
3. use sony xplod equipment
4. be sure to run wires where they can be seen instead of a few inches lower
5. use plywood

lol.
That car duster had me wondering WTF it was there for a minute or two.
Looks like something sitting in a massive pile of battery acid corrosion on the trunk carpet.

get a good box, only one sub a decent head unit to power it and tune(i like pioneer personally)
i used to run a sony xplod 12 and in the right box it hit hard as hell the box was 125 and is still sitting in my garage cuz i prefer trunk space... or gett a few good amps and power the speakers too and get an all around good system instead of just a ghetto slapper..

one of the few things i will never buy on cl is electronics, and really not for car audio. most of the ads are written so badly i can picture the person beating the snot out of a system trying to look cool. with the ease of online comparison shopping and multiple discounts readily available there is no reason to take a chance at throwing away money on abused equipment. there are literally hundreds of options out there - no one ever said you had to buy the best of the best.
for example, brand new eD amp, comps and sub for $300.

If you go with a new system, remember mark up on retail electronics is usually never less than 40% over wholesale...usually they try and go upwards of 60% mark up. So, if your going new, look for year end close outs at discounted prices. For Instance, my end of the year, is July 1st. I am putting a lot of my products that don't move fast around 30% off retail, so I don't have to account for the taxes on them. Don't forget to support local businesses, when possible.
