looking into turbo for ATX

Post by 22stars » Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:38 pm

so i'm doing a little research now so that i pick things up here and there until i get my tax refund and can start seriously putting this together, i want to go custom and low boost applications are what i'm shooting for

with that said i KNOW i'll need:

turbo
header
fuel return kit
high stall torque converter
trans cooler
blow off valve
turbo timer

...so with that said as what i know, what am i missing here? and do i need a manual valve body?...

well you cant use a header..unless your gonna give it to me:lol: becuase you use a exhuast manifold..
youll of course need al sorts of fuel lines and stuff
you might want a intercooler too...
you would only need the maunal valve body if you are planning on "maunal" shifting your automatic tranny
theres more missing i just dont remember...besides of cours alot of fuel like mods injectors and stuff...
and also depending how much power your gonna run.. your gonna be running with 15 second cars cuz of the ATX...lol
but good luck ! :thumbright:

Yeah intercooler, high output fuel pump and injectors, regulator, and also look into an aftermarket oil cooler (summit has one for under $100 by Flex-a-lite). This way, you get cooler oil to the turbo for longer life.

you'll also need to either tap your pan for an oil return line or buy one and tap it. You'll need all the turbo piping(hot pipe, cold pipe down pipe, etc.)

If you're not going with a rising rate regulator then you'll have to get something to control the injector pulses(emanage and others). Also if you're going that route then you won't need a return line.

Oil pump(kind of argued about), but I've seen pumps go out(including mine) once you put a turbo on and it can cause some serious damage. Better safe then sorry.

On another note, think about making a heat shield or relocating your coil pack. The heat from the turbo can melt the coil pack(need to do something with mine...).

Also, if you're going with an srt turbo, don't forget about the adapter plate to mount it to your head.

...thanks alot guys ... i guess i should have also put in that i understand the necessity for plumbing and the intercooler...

i more or less want to know how many things that a manual trans. doesn't need compared to an automatic
