after talking with friends and my mom and realizing that the garage doesnt do transmissions and i would have to take it to a specialist i am going to try and work on the car the weekend inbetween getting out of school and starting work... anyone that thinks they can lend a helping hand is more then welcome to come, i could use everyone's knowledge... im hoping that the fix is somewhat simple... is this inspection plate the small plate that bolts to the transmission right under the block?

The inspection plate is a tiny plate that is held to the trans with one 10mm bolt. It sits flush along the edge. I will take a pic when I get home.tomfitz wrote:after talking with friends and my mom and realizing that the garage doesnt do transmissions and i would have to take it to a specialist i am going to try and work on the car the weekend inbetween getting out of school and starting work... anyone that thinks they can lend a helping hand is more then welcome to come, i could use everyone's knowledge... im hoping that the fix is somewhat simple... is this inspection plate the small plate that bolts to the transmission right under the block?

Sorry I missed your text man. I didn't see it until quite awhile after you sent.
Yes, as others have said...the TC should be bolted to the flexplate after the trans is mounted back up. Normally when taking them apart you'll want to mark the plate and TC so you know how they line up when reinstalling, but since you bought a new TC that wouldn't have worked anyway. It'll only bolt up one way. All the others will be just slightly off.
You'll just need to keep trying each combination systematically until you get the one that works. Get one bolt in, then go to the next hole and see if it works. That one won't be quite right if you don't have the right first bolt. Get someone over on the crank bolt that can turn the motor over as you try all the combos.
Good luck!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news... but you'll have to separate the trans and motor to install the TC correctly.
When you do this, you spin the TC clockwise until it seats all the way. You'll be able to tell that it's seated because it'll sit behind the mounting tabs on the trans, IIRC.

It's locked up now, so you're going to be taking it apart again. Just as Sean said, when the TC sits farther back than the mating surface, you know it's seated correctly. More than likely, it's currently sitting at the point where the last section of splines on the shaft start. It needs to go over those to seat correctly.

Yea, alot of the shit they do on there is actually informational.
And a transmission is a transmission really. Doesn't differ much from car to car.

it wont be that bad it will actually be easier with the TC seated in the trans correctly. youll be able to go straight up with the trans instead of trying to get it over the TC that you had bolted to the flywheel. Sucks you had to find out the hard way.
And yes I'm a douche as Chris said.

if you definitely have all the bolts in the right place (this is a new one for me, I've never had to worry about getting those lined up on a PG or a 200-4r) mark it before you take it apart.
Take it all out and start over, it will be easier to do that than to half ass mess around with it while it is in the car.
And you will know when the TC is engaged. You will hear it and feel it.

took the tranny out again and did it the right way this time... put everything back together and turned the key, nothing... so i think either the starter is bad or i put a ground somewhere wrong or something isnt hooked up.. i know a guy that knows a guy so today i got it towed there... the flatbed driver was returded... he told me that if i wanted to make the car look really good that i should just cut out the center section of the front bumper.... he was also too fat to get in the car and couldnt figure out how to lower the window... oh well.. hopefully they can fix it cuz im tired of fuckin with it...
