MODERN PERFORMANCE NEW PACKAGE (great idea for upkeep)

Post by lilnicko11 » Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:03 am

Modern Performance just recently came out with this package this week. It is price pretty well in my opinion and gives you the option to choose between belts. I believe right now they just have it for the SRT4 but I would expect a base Neon package would be in the works as well. Check it out and this is a good deal if you are around 80k-120k in mileage.

$190..........extra for GATES Racing Belt +$19, MOPAR OEM belt +$45

1) Timing Belt (Your choice of belt- either Mopar OEM, Gates OEM style belt, or Gates RACING belt)
2) Mopar OEM Timing Belt Tensioner
3) PCI Idler bearing
4) Mopar OEM Water pump and Gasket

because OEM belts use old and/or outdated specifications and are not prone to price-drop after a while. Go for Gates, good price, great quality. I wouldn't know any arguments to go for the racing belt from Gates though....

Me too Nate. Once I near 80k ill be doing this with the Gates Racing timing Belt. I'll prob replace the cam gears at the same time. I'm thinking Fidanza.

Reinforced cords will do the trick, shouldn't make it $ 45.- extra costs though

 i'd buy it if it were 3x as bad and 10 times as expensive!!!

from my experience I highly recomend the race belt if your hitting 7000rpm or higher. Last year my Gatorback timing belt was deflecting at 8K rpm causing timing issues. A code would actually come up stating the cam jumped time.
Once I installed a Gates racing belt I was able to lay on 8K rpm all day long without timing issues as shown here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLy4CDXQxvs
Battery light was on due to not having an alt belt installed....

I will be doing this soon for the for my SXT...I already have a new belt, but would buy the kit cause I still need the water pump and the rest of the stuff. Might as well upgrade to a better belt while I am at it.
