car not starting... kinda

Post by wheels04sxt » Mon Apr 19, 2010 3:06 pm

first off im not really sure where to put this so feel free to move as necessary... also sorry if this is lengthy and hard to understand, im just completely lost lol

ok so i drove my car the night before last. 04 sxt 107k miles mtx. ran fine as usual, parked it shut it down for the night. got in yesterday afternoon and went to start... nothing. all lights worked, radio, everything but engine wouldnt turn over. couldnt here the starter clicking or anything... so i started troubleshooting.

the battery checked out good, all fuses are fine have power everywhere. did the key dance and no codes present. so i checked the starter relay. swapped it with the a/c realy and nothing still. i took the cover off the relay and had some one try to start the car and the conatact in the relay wasnt connecting. so i took a small screwdriver and closed it myself and... money she started right up! checked my ignition swich and everything looked good. now when i took the ignition switch out, (sorry if wording gets a lil confusing here) the plastic rod from the key cylinder that gets pushed into the slot on the ignition switch was snapped... i took my screwdriver, with the key in the ignition in the on position, and manually turned the ignition switch and the car starts but dies after about 2 seconds. did the key dance again and got the p0513 code... something to do wit hthe sentry key which i know nothing about so thats when i decided to post here in hopes for some help. please if anyone can understand this and has any advice id really appreciate it!!! lol thanks
oh and let me add i tried jumping it and as you might have guessed.... nothing

the sentry system checks for a small chip in your key, it has to be in the vacinity of your steering wheel for it to work. did u get a different key cut for it?

UPDATE: Upon further research.

P0513: Incorrect Immobilizer Key

Did you try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes (and press the brake pedal to suck whatever juice is left in the system) to see if this will reset the system ???)

Good luck.

lol that was fast!

but yeah its the same key i got with the car. i had the battery unhooked for a while but never tried to drain the remaining power. i will try that now though. i called a service tech at the stealership and he wants me to have the car towed there so they can look at it....

also. try keying your car in the on position without starting it for like 3-5 hours, with the charger hooked to the battery, then try starting it. u may need a new key, idk how rare that a key would go is tho.

You are prolly the lucky bastid!

Good deal on getting it fixed. I couldn't find a breakdown for the ign switch assy, just the lock cylinder, which wouldn't have helped you.
