can it hurt the engine?
if you put a air intake on ... do you have to put an exhaust on to? would just the intake hurt the car?
and wat could i do to the car to make it more responsive
ill be driving around 35 or 45 mph the car shifts fine. but when i push the gas pedle there is no acc. or acc in rpms...
wat could i do to to stop this

Nothings causing it, your car is slow, and an automatic. We've all been there.
If you want better throttle response, get a 60mm throttle body, some new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, cold air intake, axle back exhaust, take out the rear seats and trunk lining. And you'll feel slightly faster.

You can buy stuff for your car on any one of 1000 websites, for-sale threads on forums like this one, from friends, etc. Have you ever heard of google?
Please stop posting a new thread with every new question you have. Post in 'General 2nd gen discussion' and ask all your questions in one spot. Or better yet, use the SEARCH button at the top of the main page. These are all very common questions that have been covered several times here on our forum. Answering them 100's of times for each new member gets very old.

There could be an issue with the transmission also. At 35 to 45 mph, it should downshift at WOT. The torque converter should also give some rpm rise too. If it is acting like a manual transmission (MTX) in 5th gear at 35 when you go WOT, and it just bogs, then there is some issue.thisdieingdream1 wrote:
but why does my car do that... why do i push the gas but nothing happens?
what is causing it? throtle body?
Now if you mash the gas, and the engine is making rpm's/going into speed racer mode, but the car is not; well sadly that is normal.

A less restrictive air intake system will make the car feel a little bit of more responsive. As is know the high flow air filter. CAI might be a better choice. I heard MPx 60mm TB is a good thing to get too. Less restrictive exhaust like a header or a high flow muffler may increase a little also. UDP let engine rev high easier with less weight put on the driving belt. If you do really want a lot of horsepower, things list above are useless. Get a turbo or bigger engine. That's what I heard...
With my car, if I floor the gas at 35-45mph, it automatically downshift give the loud WOT sound and get acceleration immediately. ATX sucks, you cannot control the gear which is the major problem.

Ok sure this guy knows nothing about his Neon, but do you have to be a strict-dick? And search hardly ever works for ME!!! So no need to single out the newbie for his question. At least it's not the 500th where is the best place to buy HIDS at question. How do you expect to draw and keep new people when your "mean" to them haha. Just saying Derek, lightn' up a bit. But if he does this, for a month. Thennnnnn you can just crush his soul.OB wrote:You can buy stuff for your car on any one of 1000 websites, for-sale threads on forums like this one, from friends, etc. Have you ever heard of google?

Reading your second post I had a problem with my tps sensor it was brand new and not working properly. I could floor it Angeles have 0 throttle response as well as my kickdown not engaging. Replaced my whole throttle body with a junkyard piece and Viola!!! Spunky neon

again that's why a 3spd transmission rock
anyways lets help the guy looking that he's new. He should do the following
Return his 04 and buy a 3spd
buy CAI ebay
save up for an intake header
exhaust
decent tune up
ign cables and coil

^3 spds is easy in controlling WOT probably but not good in acceleration. I lost to some 5 or 6 spds Civic all the time. Since the gear takes longer to upshift (me still in 1st gear when civic is in 3rd gear already), so not that good in accelerating in my opinion.
i suggest him just throwing in a high flow air filter and take out the resonator(if not yet). and lower the car first. Neon is not a car design to run very fast...
btw alsey if you have time maybe you wanna take your car down to mopar meeting every saturday (clairmont mesa & diane), we got nice crowd around every week.

i have a high flow air intake. thats pretty much it...
just sick of people cutting me off and passing me after i have passed them
where could i even get a 60mm tb i cant find one...and yes i have been using search
and i saw that i could get a tb spacer? what woud. that do?
and my atx is fine shifts nice and always spin the tires when starting out at redlights or stop signs and the rpms dont even go about 2500 while doing this.
jsut when im going around that mph does the slow responce come... i dont look for it to be fast i just want it to GOOOO when i push the gas TO MAKE IT GOOOO lol
and what is a tps sensor? what does that do?

oh and another ?s going for stock suspension springs to lowering springs...
what is the highest drop i can get...
what brand
i have looked at the eibach sportline they offer 2inch to 2.4 inch of drop i think...
is there anything else that offers that or more??
and does the sportline realllllly lower the car that much?

The sportlines do indeed lower it quite a bit. Any lower than that and you'll run out of travel and have a terrible ride, bottoming out over every bump. If you want lower, you'll need coilovers.
And no matter how many bolt ons you throw at your engine, your car is still going to be slow. The automatic trans is worthless for acceleration. You are pretty much going to need a turbo setup if you want any power, but then you run into the issue of the atx not being able to handle it (if you have the 4-speed).
Be prepared to spend thousands of dollars if you really do want some of these results.

modernperformance.com > Tons of Neon parts, awesome site.
Doing internal work to your engine is one way to make power, but like I said, prepare to spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of work. If you want a quick car, you either need to swap the engine, boost it, build it NA, or buy a new car.
