Tuckin wires...

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Check out Danteneon's project log. I'm pretty sure he did this.

Same as any other car. Extend wires, hide under the fender, etc. It's a LOT of work, and you'll have to essentially tear out all the wiring in your engine bay

LOL.

Most things clean, pretty, and tidy take a lot of patience, time and money. Whether it's a significant other or a car, it doesn't matter.

It will suck the life from you all the same, and make you think you're enjoying it all the while.

I've done a moderate tuck on mine, but only the easy basic stuff. No lengthening of harnesses or anything of that nature. Start with the throttle cable and brake boost hoses, relocate the battery, hide any wiring you can, relocate grounds out of sight, etc.

Here's a pic from a few days ago, it's not as clean as usual, but you get the idea. Wish I had a before pic for reference.

^ I'd be super stoked if I could get a tuck to go like that. I've got that darned battery in there though.

It'll look a lot cleaner if you get rid of that A/C PS bologna too ;-) Not to mention that enormous freaking foam vacuum line that the R/Ts come with. WTF is with that?

IMO our engine bays look like a cluster fuck even when They have been tucked.
I kind of likecall the wires and stuff out and visible, looks more mechanical and is easier to get to for trouble shooting or if anything goes wrong

They are damn nice compared to a late 70's early 80's engine bay. All those earlier attempts at emissions fail, lurking under those hoods.

I heard my name :D

The term "wire tuck" makes this job sound easier than it is. To do it correctly, as others have said, involves cutting and extending wires. You need to map out where you want the wires to go, open up the harness, and start the hard work.

I concider mine a minor tuck. It will become a major tuck over the winter. Here are some pics of what I did...

Image

Image

The PCM harness was cut and re-run to make just two major runs. All of the top, side, and front engine connectors are run to the front of the engine. From there they go towards the drivers side (under the CAI) and tie into the remaining PCM harness, then go back across the trans and tie into the connectors to the dash. The connectors that are normally on the firewall are now hidden behind the drivers shock tower. The only wires run along the back are for the alt.

IMO, it isn't enough. So the next step will be to move the PDC and PCM inside the car. That will be a real tuck

Ohhhh just paint your car aluminum with panel lines and rivets and rust like an old factory and expose all the wires you can, opposite of a tuck! That would be effing sweet
