I had a super hard time removing this when installing K&N typhoon intake system. Anyone has a better idea to remove this weird designed bolt? Thanks very much.

lol really? How? I tried a saw but the bolt might be too thick for that. I guess there should be some other way to do it, but I just don't know. If it's that hard to take the bolt out, I think the design of the Chrysler cars are a little bit too PITA...

No because if the nut move, the base moved with it. And the base is round (shown in the second pic) that's why cannot use 2 sockets to remove them... I guess I just don't have the proper tools, so to make life easier, I hammered them out...
Since the Typhoon intake require a screw on the air box mounting point instead of battery tray mounting as AEM kit, this is some critical point in installing it...

I've had it out quite a few times. I'm pretty sure mine is just a nut ontop of bolt welded in..

I hope it's a welded one but I don't know if the design of Neons are different or not. Or maybe the welding materials are too weak that they broke apart already. Like Chris said, "Hammer time!" haha.

That was a clinch nut. They tend to fail when the turning torque overcomes the clinch friction. Vise grips on the bottom may have helped, but if you clamp them too tight, it just crushes the threads even tighter.
They work similar to rivets...
Not exactly the same as what was there, but close enough.

^ Mine is just a gaping hole. Has been since I got the car. Now I just use a nut and bolt to hold the airbox in place.

I guess someone before you hammered it out...

Since there's a mount on K&N system that need to be mount to one of the air box mount and that's the problem.
Due to my car is owned since it's brand new s o I'll say it's a design problem by Chrysler... Though we know there are a lot of design problems.

it's not a well nut (cinch nut)
Its a stud welded to the sheetmetal. There is not enough material to have threads installed to use a standard bolt, so they installed a stud and tack welded it in place.

True, I remember it being a stud now, and the first pic shows that.
I think mine was still crimped instead of welded. Otherwise why go through the hole, and just not weld it to the inner surface? Mine now has a well nut in its place tho.

I just left that in place. I had no need to remove it for my CAI.

the only reason it is/was missing on mine, is due to that panel being replaced. Apparently, the stud is not part of the replacement panel. It is a Mopar replacement part.
