Whats with people thinking you have to tighten the oil drain bolt to 400000ft lbs?

I'm doing the first oil change on the SRT-4 since my ownership and the fker is half way rounded and on super tight.

Good thing the Dodge dealer is across the street (less than half a mile). So I got up and walked to the dealer (didnt want the car to get hot driving) and bought a replacement... $6! lol..

Got home and hammered a smaller size socket on and used a breaker bar to finally get the bitch off.

And now the Neon is happy with new oil in her.

Edit: I guess this was how I looked when I saw the bolt was rounded and on super tight.

The amount of times a car would roll in here with the oil plug to tight or stripped is too high for me to count. 9 times out of 10 it was done by quick lube shops.

Same thing happened when I installed my S3R kit on my Neon. The Dealership put some loctite on it as the threads were covered in blue stuff.

When I changed the oil in the 2.4 I just put in the red car I was breaking a sweat with the ratchet and a breaker bar. It finally gave loose and I had bloody knuckles. Same thing I thought. Fucking idiots.

Oil filter was also on there tight as shit.

Dodge dealer got me like that. I ended up bringing it back to them and telling the shop manager (a good friend of mine) about it. I had them use a 2000 neon bolt on it so it had a 13MM head vs that stupid 10MM head.

Everyone knows that the proper drain plug torque for a backyard mechanic is 250,000 ft-lbs and for a grease monkey is 500,000 ft-lbs.

If that was done at a quick lube last, I would take it back and say they didn't get it tight enough if it was only at 400,000 ft-lbs.

i've had to replace every single one after I do my first oil change because they put the damn thing on so tight. That and I usually crush the filter trying to get that off too.

I weld my drain plug and filter on because I don't want them flying off at speed.

Walmart sheared my moms jeep plug off with a air ratchet then got a new one and used loctite on it. It's truely an art form when the put the plug back (if they put it back).

don't forget to put the mixture of redloctite, jb weld and gorrilla glue on when reinstalling. Also just let a gorrilla crank on it with a hand ratchet for accurate torq spec.

The commercial places prolly tighten the shit out of them to avoid claims it came loose and fell out. They cover their ass, at your expense.

you should be lucky your car isnt like mine, when i did the first oil change on it after i bought it took me like 15 mins to get the drain plug off, only to find out it wasnt even the right plug, and that all the thread where stripped, some how they got it tight enough to not leak but not me. its as tight as it will go and will drip oil out after driving it. until its cooled down!. i have another oil pan. just need to install it

my shop i got the lube techs to tighten hand tight then give a half turn and thats it never had a prob with comebacks (knock on wood)
