How to remove front door glass?

Post by SP33DN3ON » Sat May 08, 2010 12:15 pm

Recently went through a car wash :banghead: *never again* , which scratched the s**t out of my driver's side front and rear door glass.
I've already searched through the forum, but I can't find info on removal/installation.
Please help. Thanks =]

been awhile since i had my door panels off, but you should just have to remove the door panels .

- 1 screw behind the inside pull handle, 1 screw in the armrest, and a couple screws at the bottom, then get a screwdriver and wedge it in the bottom till u get one of the clips to pop, then work around up with your hand to pop the rest of the clips, then pull up and take the panel off..

you will have to unclip the wire harness if you have power windows/locks underneath the armrest where the buttons are

also 2 weird metal arms that clip in that work the door latch before the panel will come all the way off.. kinda hard to explain, you will see how they work when u pop the panel

-and IIRC the glass is held in place by the bracket(tracks) etc.. go to pepboys/autozone etc, and thumb through a haynes or chilton manual for our car and see if it says exactly,. then buy the book, or take a picture of the page with a camera ;)

someone else can maybe explain it better than me, but this will get you started

perfect timing for your post man as i just had mine out to get them tinted. I will try to explain the best I can.

*remove door panel. three screws=one in armrest hole, one behind door handle lever, one a few inches below mirror(u will see the hole). pop the door panel off by using a tool of your choice to get it started in a corner, then use your hands to pop it the rest the way off. once its popped out lift up and out to on the panel to remove it from the door. at this point before you unplug any connectors roll the window up 3-4 inches. Unplug all connectors and unclip metal rods from connectors. set door panel aside.

*need to remove the inside window guide. its the black strip that is felt covered basically. there are three clips holding it on. one on each side and one in the middle. I used a trim panel removal tool to aid in the removal. be careful not to bend the crap out of this piece.

*You need to pull back the plastic cover that you now see where the big hole in the door is. how you do that is up to you. I suggest just pulling the plastic back trying not to tear it up so you can put it back when your done.

*now in the hole you should see about in the middle a white plastic piece that your window is attached to. There are two bolts you need to remove. They are 8mm fyi. remove these and now the window can be removed. At this point its kinda a finesse job. Pull the window straight up and out slightly to clear the door seal. You will get to a point where you will have to tilt the window forward to clear it from the seal. No easy way to explain this, but if your any kind of diy person you will see what needs to be done now.

that pretty much covers the front window. front windows are easy as you dont have to pull the door seals. the rear windows suck.

The plastic membrane, IIRC is not sold/available. I just cut mine, to keep from stretching it. Clear packing tape works great to re seal it. It seems to peel back off easily when you need to access the inner door again.

I believe it is mainly there to help keep dust out.
