whining coming from speakers

Post by skaterking411 » Mon May 10, 2010 8:13 pm

i had everything hooked up 2 days ago working fine but my trunk was a mess so i unhooked everything and reorganized it now nothing works right. my speakers that are hooked up to the amp make a buzzing sound. is it a bad ground. or wires to close?

which ground? i checked all the grounds under the hood and the ground for the amp. and i also hooked it up to another battery and it still does it.. thats whats make me think it may be interference. also under the hood, when the car isnt running, it makes the same noise

*i just went out and hooked my ipod straight up to the amp with aux to rca connector and speakers did not make any noises. so its either the radio or the rca cables? its a pioneer headunit. ive read about them doing this. :banghead:

good chance you blew the pico fuse. ground the rca connections to the radio.

i just wrap a bare wire around the outsides of the rcas and attach it a bolt on the radio?

does the sound get louder as you accelerate? if so you have your power wires to close to your rca wires.

no, that would be an indication of a bad ground.

Is it possible by rearranging/tidying thing up, he has created a ground loop?

The only other things that can cause a whine that correlates to engine speed would be a bad alternator ground/noise suppressor, or plug wires. But those won't go bad by messing around in the trunk. :D

no problem. the pico fuse is a widely known issue with almost all pioneer head units. most times it is caused by "hot swapping" rca cables (connecting or disconnecting them while the head unit has power) but it has been known to happen on it's own.

if you have cheap RCA's, you will get this. Also watch where you run your RCA cables too. Never run them on the same side as your power wires or remote wires.

I have the same problem with my amped speakers. I bought some ground loop isolators but they did nothing,

I'll have to try grounding the RCAs to the stereo

the pico issue is really only found on pioneer headunits. if you have one then try grounding the rca to the hu chassis. if you don't then you need to recheck and possibly redo the grounds for your hu, amp(s) or possibly both.

also found you can go to Best Buy, buy the Peripheal ISVE-61 4 channel line out converter, use that off the high level speaker outputs, turn the gains to 1/4, then rca plugs on the output side going to the 4 channel amp.

Problem solved.
