TV inputs/cables quetion...

Post by SILVER-ES » Sun Nov 13, 2005 5:57 pm

Cassi and I just got a new 27" flat screen TV. Of course my main reason motivating the purchase was a better TV for the 360 (old tv was a 19" CRT). The TV has S-Video input as well as component input. Does anyone know which is going to give me the best picture quality? The 360 comes with Component HD AV cables, would buying the S-Video cables improve the quality or no? Thanks.

Without a doubt the component cables. S-Video sucks in comparisson to the components and S-Video won't give you HD. If you want better than component you're gonna have to go with DVI and I don't think the 360 has a DVI connection.

That's what I was thinking but the TV isn't HD so will the component cables still be better then s-video?

Ahh... well if you don't have HD then yes but the difference isn't much if any. The S-Video cable doesn't carry a sound signal either so you'll need to hook up cables for that based on how your TV is setup.

Ok. I'll just stick with the component cables that come with the system then. Sounds like a better route. From what I've read I'll get better quality that way then paying for the s-video cables. Honestly I didn't even know the TV had component until today.

YES! I had s-video for my ps2 then i switched to components and it made a nice difference. I dont have HD, just a normal tv.
