In the front, I like to use the frame rails as far forward as I can. If you look under the car toward the forward end of the drivers or passenger door, you will see rails about 3" wide and maybe 5 feet long. Put your jack back enough so that you can fit a stand in front of it as far forward as possible to prevent teeter tottering the whole car.

On the back, use the crossmember that the lateral arms bolt to, on either side of the hump in the middle.

exactly what was said. some people use the lil part closer to the edge but i see a lot of people bend the metal there. just use the frame rails farther underneath. depending on what ur doing. i jack up one side, put the stand under and do the other side put the jack stand under but you can leave it on the jack as a secondary. unless ur putting the car on 4 stands. lmk if you dont understand this, ill be glad to take pics tomorrow

in front i'm a fan of using the uni-body frame. the weight that sits up front seems to be a lot for the pinch welds to handle. in the back i just use the pinch welds. PS, if those bend it's no big deal really. it doesn't hurt the vehicle any

On the front I jack the car up on the jack pads and place stands under the k-member (just behind the horizontal bushings for the conrtol arms). The rear I use the lateral control arm support on the body like the others have said. I jack it up in the middle and place stands on either side. But you have to be careful to not put them to far out since the support member is rounded on the outter portion.

i have jack stands that are made to cradle the pinch weld in a groove, works well and i havent had any problems using them on front or rear.

yeah pinch welds don't work so good on a car that has seen salt I know from experience.

^ True.

Pinch welds are fine if you have the jack with the slot to fit the welds into. Otherwise they are liable to bend. So just keep going farther underneath.

Whomever said the rear ones work is right. Most of my pinch welds are flattened and bent to shit. Which is kinda nice because I can fit my scissor jack under there now. Either way, depending on your area and which stands you're using, you can use either spot. I go that general area Derek mentioned, because it's sturdier and I typically have the car jacked up in some dirt or shitty pavement.

and if your going to put it on stands on soft ground make sure to use a metal plate or some wood to spread the weight of the stand out so it does not end up sinking in and letting your car fall.

I put mine on the frame rails close to the front where there is an extra layer of metal along the bottom. My car has been sitting like that for about 7 months with no sign of any bending or sagging.

On the rear, I have no idea where to put them. I've been told the rear crossmember will bend if you try it there.

Only if there is a Buick in the trunk. :D

There isn't enough weight to bend it by just lowering it on the stands. Maybe if it was dropped from a few feet, but that would be a different matter.
