Any differences between the 95-00 3 speed atx and the 01 atx

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

Any differences between the 95-00 3 speed atx and the 01 atx

Post by Sparky828 » Sun Nov 13, 2005 8:39 pm

Hey guys ive heard some rumors that the 2001 3 speed atx tranny is different in some aspects then the 95-00 one... Is this true? Cause someone had to modify their tranny/vb when installing a performance one into a 2001... any comments...

AFAIK there is no difference unless you happened to get an 01 with the 41TE ATX (4spd).

So there is a 4 speed 01 atx...I think mine is a 4 speed. =(
Anyway to tell for sure, cause I am not sure when it shifts at 80, if that isn't an over drive gear or something. It sucks btw.

just mash to gas to 90mph. that should be more than adequate to tell if you have a 4th gear.

Did you call Turboaction and ask them?

The valve body is listed for 95-2000 but it did work on my 2001 with some modification.

Well, my buddy was in my car and I asked him that question, and he said if it was a 4 speed atx it would go park, reverse, drive, drive with a circle then 1, and 2. No drive with a 0...so yeah....Is there anyway I can find out with the VIN #? Brr? lol

Then mine is a 3 speed. =) Going to 90 is fun but the torque converter kicks in on the atx's at 80..So your at like 5.5k and then it drops to like 3 once u hit 80, it sucks. There are high performance ones out that disable this function, correct?

well raul if u wanna disable it then just unplug the connector for the torque convertor lockup u will get a cel but u will never have to worry bout it locking up... The connector for the lock up is right behind where the dipstick tube goes into the tranny...
