Kickdown linkage?

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

Kickdown linkage?

Post by strykr » Thu May 20, 2010 1:55 pm

I recently changed my atx to mtx and i left the atx tb on the car and was wondering if the kickdown linkage cable should still be there?

Does the atx tb on the 2gn's have a idle adjustment screw? Or should I just go to the yard and pull a mtx tb off a neon and a 60mm tb off of another car?

I just have a feeling the kickdown cable shouldnt be there.. lol because it doesnt connect to the tranny case and its just kinda lying loose in my car (looks bad) lol

I would disconnect it, before it catches on something, and hangs the throttle open.

The only thing is that with the cable removed the gas pedal seemed to be ALOT easier to move, and would that not cause the car to loose acceleration to WOT?

Is there a spring on the other end of the kickdown cable? If not, then it is just the drag of the cable making it harder to move, and would slow the return to idle also.

When I added cruise control, I had to install an additional spring to the Mustang TB, or it would not return. The Ford TB has a very weak spring, compared to the neon TB.

On an '01, it's going to have to be a Ford, or MPX/Lorenzo. Jeep TB's are a 1gn thing.
