Modding Tokicos for 205/50??

Post by srtgtr34 » Thu May 20, 2010 11:19 pm

I have a 5th srt wheel I picked up a while ago. It probly has about 20% tread left (its the stock tire) and I plan on using it a spare ONLY, while i'm in college. The tire will be going on a slightly bent wheel, so It will only be in the rear of the car.

My question is, Is it safe to grind some of the lower stut down to make room for these tires?

I will be test fitting them tomorrow, since I have to dismount the other tires.

I am thinking that maybe they will just clear the perch of the strut due to the low tread on them, If not then.... I may mod them or buy 3mm spacers for the rear.

There is mad controversy about this, but I ran SRT wheels with a 205/50 Sumitomo tire and never had clearance issues.

Buying new tires > grinding strut perches.

I don't know why this is such a debate. Tires are cheap, go get thinner ones.

I grinded my perch a little bit on my 04 Neon back in the day...probably not the preferred method but if you don't get dumb with it, you'll be fine.
