Torn passenger axle boot.

Post by synviper » Sun May 23, 2010 3:22 pm

Ive searched and found that the best way to replace it, is by just replacing the axle all together.

Was wondering if this is the right axle im looking for

That is a appears to be the passenger side axle that fits in to the solid extension. You could always take your to the store and compare. Says they are in stock, or is that just where I am ?

It's not hard to replace a CV boot. You just need to buy a CV boot kit. It comes with a boot, 2 clamps, and a bag of axle grease and cost about $5. I used a pair of side-cutters to remove the clamps, then pull off the old boot and slide on the new one. Make sure not to get dirt and grit inside the CV joint tho. Dump the whole bag of grease into the joint if it needs it. Get the clamps good and tight and slide back onto the intermediate shaft. Consume beer of job-well-done.

I think most parts stores sell them.

I purchased mine at O'Reilly auto but I got it with our work account. Your's may be more expensive. Still less money and hassle than a brand new axle tho.

^^ As long as the CV joint isn't damaged, then it will be fine.
