Valve Cover

Post by strykr » Tue May 25, 2010 7:46 am

I recently noticed that my Vavle cover on my car has cracked from changing the PCV vavle. The mechanic never told me it was.. But there is a huge crack from the pcv hole to the bottom were it meets the head and is causing a vacuum leak.

I was wondering what neons came with a metal vavle cover, if there is any? If not is there any other vavle cover i can throw on?

A crack in the VC will not cause a vacuum leak. If it isn't leaking oil, it is prolly fine for the moment. There is (shouldn't be vacuum in the crankcase) an air makeup on the back that lets air in preventing a vacuum from forming. There should be a brass insert where the PCV valve screws in. I think it is semi common for them to spiderweb/crack there.

If oil isn't coming out, air is not getting in.

Just put another plastic one on for the time being. You really have to make an effort to crack them. I'd bet if you cranked a metal 3/8 pipe nipple into the cast aluminum VC, it would crack as easy as the plastic one.

I actually have a metal one in my for sale thread. It is pretty much unmolested, but has some scuff marks around the spark plug tube holes.
