which tire should i get

Post by eastwoodsn352 » Sat May 29, 2010 11:10 pm

So it's time for some new tires. Going with a 215/40/17. snow isnt an issue because I live in Alabama and when it snows everything shuts down. Currently I have 205/40/17 Fuzion ZRi. Below are the tires I have picked out. I'm wanting to stay within the $100 range. Feel free to give suggestions also. so, which one should i get?

Fuzion ZRi
Tread Rating 320
$86 a piece

Yokohama Parada Spec 2
Tread Rating 300

BFGoodrich G-Force Sport
Tread Rating 340

Since the tread are similar, brands are all pretty big, so I'd say go with the lowest price one. How about Dunlop Direzza? I guess they are even cheaper and I've been using those for a long time and they run well.

Do Falken Azenis come in that size? They're about $100 a tire and they will blow all of those out of the water. The Kumho XS' come in 215/45/17. I can't stress how awesome those are.

the falken looks nice but I'm looking to stay around a 300 thread rating. The kumho also looks good but it doesn't come in a 215/40/17.

UTOG treadwear ratings are a joke (I can elaborate on this further if you like)

The yokos are the best on your list. I vote RT615s or XS

Yes, Please !!

I have become suspicious of these 'treadwear' numbers, myself..... I'd appreciate any further insight.

Tire company's grade themselves and as long as they don't over grade the tires they can put whatever they want on the sidewall.

Exactly the idea is add 2 zeros to the UTOG score so in theory

Kumho V710= 1000mi of street driving
BFG KDW2 (standard SRT tire) 20000mi of street driving

That being said my KDW2s are hovering at 85000mi and still have a little tread left

I ran Kumho ECSTA SPT with good results when I lived in Southern MS. The sidewalls are kind of soft, but I had 205/55/15 so it shouldn't be so bad with less sidewall on the 17s
