205/40/17, 215/40/17, or ?????

Post by biggrobb1995 » Mon May 31, 2010 9:25 pm

I just dropped my car on some Tokico Blues with H & R springs. The rims I have are 17 x 7. I want to go with 215/40/17 tires. Would the width of 215 be ok or should I go with 205? I would like that extra little bit of width for a bit more grip even though I know thats not much of a difference.

215/40 will fit on a 7" wheel.

That is what I would go with since it works out to a dead on match for the OEM tire height.

Thanks Frank. Another concern I have is will I have any issues with the strut perch or any other suspension component clearing the rim or tire?

There are a number of people running 215/40/17 without a problem. I'm pretty sure that as long as you don't go with a crazy offset everything will be fine.

i have a set of 205/40/17 tires you could buy for a reasonable price...used for ~5 months last summer. I want to say i probably put 3-4k miles on them
