Rocker panel replacement..

Post by strykr » Sat Jun 05, 2010 8:26 pm

Over the winter the rockers on my car have rotted completely through, I was wondering if there is a cheap easy way to replace them? Its the only parts on my car other then the KFrame that has rust on it. The only other option I'm thinkin about is to buy another neon, but I'd rather not spend 1000's on another car if need be.

If anyone has any ideas plz post thx!!

Not really an idea, more or less the only way to fix something like that: Cut out the bad portion and weld in a new one. Just like they do with quarter panels. There's no magic way to fix rusted metal.

How much do you love your car?

cbjones did a replacement, but IDK how well it worked out.

To have it professionally done, it would prolly be more than the value of the car. I would put the $ towards cleaner/newer neon, if you want to stay with a neon.

Use this one as a daily. Or drive it till the wheels fall off. Clean and paint as much as you can to slow the rust a little. If they are that far gone, there is prolly a lot more hidden damage that will show up after you spend to get them fixed.

I know it isn't the answer you want, but it is the brutal truth.

If you can swing a replacement neon, remove the interior and spray some kind of rust inhibitor in every crevice you can. Drill from the inside to get to the rocker area if you have to.

Such is life where the winter makes snow.
