Get the Meguiars kit from Walmart, it's like 14.99 and comes with enough clay, wax, and cleaner to do the car a solid 3-4 times. Very affordable.

It looks exactly like stick-tack. I'm wondering if some sort of modeling clay that doesn't harden could be used instead..

The Meguiar's kit retails for $19.99, and comes with two 50g claybars. Meguiar's C-2000 Mild Clay is 200g and retails for $31.99. Those are your pretty common choices when looking for clay locally.ragek23 wrote:I went to the autoparts store and one 160g bar was $30!!!! That being said about finding clay in stores, the last clay bar I bought was from Auto Detailing Solutions. A 200g Hi Tech Mild Clay bar is $14.99. $0.00-$19.99 is $7.95 shipping. You can get that 200g clay bar for ~$22 shipped. Rick has the Meguiar's C-2000 clay for $28.50 + 25% off right now as part of the weekly special. You probably aren't looking for aggressive clay, so I'll leave those out.
If you have QD, or don't mind buying some, getting a large clay bar is your best bet in the end.
Yeah I was looking at the Meguiar's aggressive clay, hmm I might get it when it gets closer to Carlise, not that my car looks to great right now anyway. 5 yrs, 70,000miles of highway driving on I 90 has killed the paint on the front of my car.

Realize aggressive clay will more likely than not marr the paint. It is meant to be used before paint correction takes places on vehicles with heavy contamination, which usually goes hand in hand with heavy/heavier defects.ragek23 wrote:Yeah I was looking at the Meguiar's aggressive clay, hmm I might get it when it gets closer to Carlise, not that my car looks to great right now anyway. 5 yrs, 70,000miles of highway driving on I 90 has killed the paint on the front of my car.

yeah, ive messed with alot of this stuff in the last few months, either im stupid or it just isnt worth the effort, cuz it looks the same as it does when im done waxing it with a liquid wax :/ the hood/bumper on mine needs to be stripped and painted to fix the huge patches where the clear is GONE (last owner fucked it up bad)

Shouldn't be the case... Clay bar removes contaminants from the paint which wax does not. If your car wasn't black you'd see all the baked in brake dust and road tar on the bottom of your car. Waxing won't remove this, clay bar will. And you can FEEL the difference as well as see it. Run your hand over an un-clayed vs clayed area and and you can feel the surface is smoother.NEON PARABOLA wrote:yeah, ive messed with alot of this stuff in the last few months, either im stupid or it just isnt worth the effort, cuz it looks the same as it does when im done waxing it with a liquid wax :/ the hood/bumper on mine needs to be stripped and painted to fix the huge patches where the clear is GONE (last owner fucked it up bad)

Unless your car is heavily covered in overspray, you aren't going to notice it so much visually, if at all. It will help wax bond to the paint better (not a bunch of stuck on stuff on the paint), therefore last longer, as well as your paint feeling like glass instead of sandpaper.NEON PARABOLA wrote:yeah, ive messed with alot of this stuff in the last few months, either im stupid or it just isnt worth the effort, cuz it looks the same as it does when im done waxing it with a liquid wax :/ the hood/bumper on mine needs to be stripped and painted to fix the huge patches where the clear is GONE (last owner fucked it up bad)
Are you talking about the ICE Liquid Clay bar? If so, not only will you be wasting your money, nothing is going to change in any way. It doesn't work. Clay is clay. There is no substitute. If you want your car to look good, don't cheap out. Buy the proper stuff and be done with it the first time. Just looked it up. Wowee. I guess Turtle Wax figured that out too. Clay really only comes from a few suppliers, then is repackaged among everyone. I'm sure that'll be fine since it is actual clay.ragek23 wrote:no it's not the liquid clay, id never use that stuff. I wouldn't spend all of that money on Final Inspection to use it as clay lube. Pick up a gallon of Last Touch. It dilutes in 1/2 for clay lube, so you get two gallons of clay lube for $20, vs. 1 gallon of M34 for $28.
The Meguiar's C-2000 is what I mentioned near the beginning of the thread. Decent price, but there are comparable clays for 1/2 the price for the same amount.
