Wiring up glove box light

Post by nofrills05 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:30 pm

I just got one from ebay and it came with the harness which my car was not given from the factory. It has two wires, a red one and a black w/orange stripe. Question is - is where is the best place to wire these too? I don't want to be hacking into too many wiring harnesses.

Also does anybody know if www.superbrightleds.com has an led replacement bulb for the glove box unit.

The bulb is a 194 so any LED 194 will work. I have a 5WLED in mine, but I never wired it up. You could wire it into the cigarette lighter majigger if you wished. I have no idea where I'm going to wire mine yet.

Thanks! There is a wiring harness that runs just behind and to the right of the passengers side air bag...wonder if I can splice in to that?

You could, I had looked up before which one of those wires I would need to splice into and totally spaced which one it was. Something about pink rings a bell. But I think that's the color of the wire that the cars who have the lights use. You could use any 12v source I would think.

True. Is it a safe bet that the red wire is the ground, and the black/orange one is the 12v source

the wire should be a pink i believe that is the constant throughout the car. for mine i did an add a fuse and it works fine but with a baseline i have a bunch of the pink wire that just isnt used running around the car..

Yeah, a pink wire it is. The dim lighting in my room gave me a false sense of color.

If the pink is the 12v constant - the striped wire can be a ground.

Gonna use t-tap connectors, so I don't really have to cut stuff.

I tapped into the pink wire under the dash pad, and grounded it underneath one of those Torx bolts/screws underneath the glove box.

i wired one up. i just ran a wire form the battery to a fuse then to the wire then grounded it to a bolt on the dash.

i did that so one day if i intend to wire up gauges or a cb radio or anything i already have a wire their.
