spark plug wires

Post by Alex Kurdian » Fri Jun 18, 2010 3:57 am

Hey Guys
Granatelli spark plug wires vs stock wires for a stock SOHC 2.0L Neon

worth getting Granatelli or stock is just as good and or better...$$ aint an option....

or can someone recommend something better ? is it also worth replacing the coil pack (Stock or other) at the same time even though coil pack aint broke?

Stock wires are just fine as is the the stock coil.

If the coil isn't broke, there isn't much of a reason to replace it. However, when it does you should just get a stock one (unless an aftermarket one is cheaper) since there really isn't a difference in coil performance for a stock Neon.

If you are going to do the wires you should do the plugs while you are at it. They are cheap. In the states they are about ~US$10

Platinums worked fine for me, tho the coppers seem to be doing just as well. As far as wires, I went with Spiro Pro's (Taylor) mainly due to them being a shade cheaper than OEM. They have been on there since '05 or so. Depending on your pricing there, good aftermarket wires might be a better choice. Maybe overkill, but if the stockers cost way above like all your other parts....

For the coil, I doubt they loose output over time. If it isn't misfiring, the coil is fine.

hey Bill yeah I get butt F**ked here for part pricing ....so that's why so far I've bought most my parts from the US ....our dollar being so good has been a huge bonus....I'm ordering soon an o2 sensor upstream and most likely the graniteli wires or mopar as price doesn't really matter...unless someone recommends otherwise

Any particular reasons for using platnum?

Very few people have had good luck running platnum plugs. Most rip them out for coppers or iridiums in very short order.

Copper plugs work fine in most any application really. Save your money and go with a set of those.

Wires don't matter man. I am running Autozone Duralast wires in my SRT. No issues.
Do yourself a favor and change the plugs yourself, its soooo easy to do. :)

You'd get more bang for your buck buying good spark plugs than performence wires. Unless you're going for a custom color or sommat, I'd agree with the rest and save your money.

Ha! I defer to some of the more experienced people here.

Was the decrease in fuel econ sudden or gradual?
By much did it decrease by?
How long ago?

5083893AC Cable set, all models, 2.0l 1997 - 2005 $48.45

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-7964Y/ $33.95

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TAY-74279/ $36.99

This is why I didn't buy stock. Performance wires = better bang for the buck. At least where you can buy them locally. ;)

Shipping FTL.

Either set of wires will work fine, tho I think the Spiro Pros will outlast the oem. Iridiums will work fine also. Not sure they will do better than copper tho. They might last longer?
