anyone bought/used one of these before? i think the black one from jegs looks pretty cool but i dont know if its really worth it. says its suppose to help with gas mileage plus it monitors different engine parameters. what do yall think? is it worth $255?

There are a lot of options now for fuel economy gauges. I wouldn't get that one unless you really wanted the gtech features or just liked the looks.
I'm still rocking my scangaugeII http://www.scangauge.com/
MPGuino which you can assemble yourself http://ecomodder.com/wiki/index.php/MPGuino
http://ecomodder.com/forum/opengauge-mp ... puter.html
Also varieties of software for netbooks/laptops that seem far more flexible than the above.

I'll take that $100 from you, PM me for my paypal.

You actually save gas with heavier acceleration. As long as you aren't going into open loop. Your engine will produce power more efficiently.Forest Green 2k wrote:I'll coach you... don't drive with a lead foot.
Lesson over and I only charge $100!

That's why you drive like a normal person when it comes to things like that. In no way did I suggest heavily accelerating to a stop sign where you'd have to slam on the brakes.iskyfly wrote:not if it gets you to the red light or stop sign faster.fusion210 wrote: You actually save gas with heavier acceleration.
It's a tool like every other gauge. If you use it, the savings are there.BlackRoseRacing wrote:not really worth the money....
If you want better gas mileage leave the engine stock and drive consertavely....
My modded Magnum motor would get 25mpg average 35highway...
Otherwise, it's like trying to follow a certain speed without the speedometer or a tach.

Here's they key, drive conservatively, check your tire pressure weekly, track your milage at every fill up. You'll save more by doing these three items than any gizmometer hooked up to the obd port will. Plus most people already own a calcultor, the math is easy. Unless your dumb as shit, then the math is hard, BUT, if you're rocking a state issued drivers license you can probabbly handle it.eastwoodsn352 wrote:meh im looking at it more for the "driving coach" to help save gas. i drive 52 miles a day going to work.
I've been driving like a hero on my superawesome 125km one way commute to and from work and have still been pulling off on average 40mpg imperial (about 33mpg us). Driving conservatively it should be up around 45mpg, but I sleep in a lot and time isn't free, and gas is cheap.

Don't drive like a dipshit and you will get good mileage.
I've got 38+mpg multiple times on highway trips.

i got 40mpg highway with a trunk full of shit full interior 2.4 and 3.55 gears on a 950 mile trip on all three tanks (39-41 mpg)
even now i got around 33-35 on a 300 mile trip with 3.94 gears .81 5th and gutted and not to light on the foot
dont floor it keep your distance between you and other cars so you dont have to jam your brakes and then pick back up again its all simple stuff

I actually suggest getting a Garmin GPS system. Since there's a section called "Driving Challenge" which can score the way you drive and give the suggestion of how to save gas and the most important thing is it's a GPS... I actually like this function very much.

He is talking about a "driving game" not the actual driving.
It rates your accelerating, decelerating and speed. You pretty much fail on the highway because of going 70mph.
I mess with it yesterday, I didn't like it too much.

even though everyone is saying no i think i still might buy it...
I'll keep up with exact MPG for the next few weeks driving normally like i do now. Then once I buy it i'll go by what the bully dog thing tells me to do. If its worth the savings in gas...i'll keep it and if not.....i'll return it to JEGS.
Sounds like i'm going to need to prepare a parts/product review thread in the near future.

its gonna tell you to accel slower, and keep i within speed limit..
the scanguage is half the price a 1/3 the size.. and will let you watch MPG, gallons per hour, you can input cost when you pump fuel so you can see Cost per minute, watch TPS, engine Timing, engine load, manifold pressure, blah blah blah.... oh horsepower, and o2 up and downstream sensors with the xguage... youd be surprised how little HP it uses to keep the car cruising along...
you can also change the guage backlighting color to match your interior lightin etc.. i like blue
matches all my leds...

This is all you need to calculate exact fuel economy.

I'm buying a scanguage. Probably this winter.
But for many reasons besides fuel economy.
You drive an econo box. You don't need to buy something specifically for fuel economy.

for the cost of the bulldog for that function it would take you a while to save as much money as you spentheydockyle wrote:I'm buying a scanguage. Probably this winter.
