Muffler fell off on road trip after running over a rodent in the road lol now i have this foul smell coming into the car. Whats the smell from ? Ive been told that its either the cat or the fuel injectors but these answers are from parts counter people lol i would rather ask you guys lol please i cant stand the smell and just bough a stock muff from napa for 62$

A muffler simply muffles the noise. It doesn't have a filter in it that will make the exhaust smell any less than it does. That being said, unless you are running fuel high in sulfur, that smell is generally caused by the engine running rich. Any codes (CEL doesn't have to be on to have codes)? Worst case, it's a bad cat.

It is possible it was working well enough to run, but the fuel injectors might have been out of phase with the cam. (Not injecting fuel on the intake stroke). It would be more of a low rpm issue, but you prolly wouldn't notice the smell cruising at 65 mph anyways.

The fuel would be settling out a little as it waited for the intake valve to open to pull it into the cylinder. This may have thrown the combustion off enough to give an incomplete burn.

But only time will tell if it did clear up.
