Just Switched Insurance. Saved 38% not 62%! Still dang good

Post by Sykora » Fri Jun 25, 2010 3:14 pm

Yeah for serious. So I was thinking about switching from Nationwide earlier, but didn't get around to it 'cause of Graduation (hence my absence.) But I got an email from Progressive saying my previous quote was lower, so I checked it out and since Nationwide raised my premium again, I switched.

Nationwide was charging me $942 for 6 months at $157 per month (they just raised it $26!)

Progressive is charging me $583.50 for 6 months at about $98.26 per month.

So yeah, I was with Nationwide mainly 'cause my parents were with them for 20 years. I've been with them for 5 years without any claims so far and they kept raising my policy. My parents both switched to Mica or something like that.

What's everyone paying currently?

Flo FTW!

I was with Geico for 5+ years. I was paying about $183 a month for my two cars. I refinanced with Progressive this past month and they give me higher coverage and a couple other coverages that I did not have with Geico. $152 a month for both my cars. Geico wouldn't budge. I can still do my defensive driving discount on Progressive too.

$160 for two cars. My neon is about $50 for liability and the Caliber is $110 for full coverage.

Also you saved 38% not 62%.

(942-583.50)/942 = .38 = 38%

If you saved 62% you would be at $357.96

Nice savings.

$230 for six months PLPD in Michigan. I'll be hunting around for some non-NoFault insurance here in TX :-) this weekend.

^ Mine was very similar to yours Chad, except it's cheaper now that I've got an older, cheaper car. PLPD FTW.

The math looks good. Couldn't be 62% even more so due to the simple fact that 50% of $942 is $471.

I was on my parents plan through nationwide also because they have been with them 20 years and i was paying 126.55 a month and i also switched to progressive and changed states from ny to ohio and i also went from a neon to a spirit r/t and now i pay 26.01 a month.

I'm glad i don't have any accidents or tickets so i don't have to pay high insurance.

Nationwide did the exact same thing to me. My policy kept getting higher with nothing on it to cause it to get higher. 0 points on my license, perfect record. I asked the guy and he told me it's because I drive a small car and all small cars have high insurance. I was with them because my parents were....I saved...literally 76% by switching to a different type of insurance. Damn was I happy.

The SXT however is $63/month Full coverage

Progressive since 2003

$90 a month

$500 deductible, Full Coverage, Uninsured motorist, blah blah blah etc etc etc. I have enough coverage to protect me from losing my house and everything else I own, y'know for that just in case scenario.

Just remember you get what you pay for (I had a bad experience)

Now with that said I would suggest to ANYONE to ask a very reputable auto body shop which insurance companies they recommend.

Damn. I pay $210/month with Vermont Mutual. I think Nationwide quoted me something like $163/month while Progressive quoted me almost $300. I need to start thinking about switching.

I am with you Sykora, Progressive FTW. I am at $88.XX a month for the SRT. No points. $500 deductable and a bunch of other good stuff. Nice getting older and having the insurance rates go real down. Once I become a home owner it should go down even more.

Progressive :buttkick: me ROYAL when my '02 SXT got totalled. I would NOT recommend them, regardless of a lower premium. I can share the story if anyone is interested but it is too long to post here without going off-topic. :ranting: Learn from my (bad) experience.

After that nightmare, I went back with State Farm. My current premium (started June 18th) is $585 semi-annually ($250 collision deductible, rental car coverage and "Additional Use of Non-Owned Car Coverage" for driving company vehicles on my jobs). Disclaimer: I get a $105 multiple-line discount since I also have my homeowners insurance with them and a $108 accident-free discount which is pretty amazing considering my fender bender in February! One of the few benefits of being as old as dirt- lower premiums! :D

Holy shit. I pay $151.99 a month for both my SRT4 and my ACR.

I upgraded my coverages to. A lot of people do not understand insurance and run the lowest so called "full coverage" which isn't always the best. You should always make sure you have out of state coverage, medical, tow, etc. As far as liability, don't go with the minimum 25,000-50,000-25000. You should at least do 50-100-50.

I just switched to USAA from a local generic company. I was paying $49/month for basic liability (ya, bad move rofl). Now I'm paying $79/month for full-coverage, maximum everything, reimbursement on rental and tow expenses, etc. I told the lady "I want max on everything. Give me the best coverage you got" rofl. But yea, $79/month with $500 deduct. I don't think that's all that bad.

progressive since 06

i pay

neon-$288.00 6 months
intrepid-$267.00 6 months--- just liability for both

full coverage with $500 deductible

xterra-$676.00 for 6 months for a total of $1,246.00

going to look around for cheaper insurance, but i have like 6 points or something on my license so it prolly wont be cheaper anywhere

I was surprised when I switch from Progressive to a "Premier" insurance company (Liberty Mutual) to get end up getting more out of my policy (with not a great record) at a lesser price. Highly recommend from the auto body shop I take my car to since they have had good dealings with this insurance company in terms of getting things done right (not like how I was dicked around by Progressive).

My premiums are high regardless cause of that accident I was in. I'll live it down sometime.

Nationwide spends too much money on advertising with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. ...... you don't expect the stockholders to pay for that, do you???
