which is easier.

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

It doesn't take too long.

Try looking here.

I always take them out from the top... It's a preference thing, based on what tools you have at your disposal, what you have had better luck with, how much help you have. Depending on experience it can take a few hours or half a day, either way, don't put yourself in a position where it HAS to happen in a certain amount of time.. personal experience has shown me that you would be setting yourself up for failure

If the car is just a donor for the engine, cut the core support out of the way, and remove from the front.

Use the lift. It will make removing the knuckles, halfshafts, etc. much easier. Standing > lying on your back.

Using a lift ALWAYS trumps not using a lift. Even if it's just lifting the car up a foot or so to keep you from having to lean over the car.
