The package was written because I was getting out in June. Most get Achievement medals when they separate or leave to goto another base. The package it self says everything I did on it for the award but in short, working above pay grade and sticking out...going above and beyond what is needed for several years.

Usually they save the commendation medals for NCOs (staff sergeants and above).

Definitley not a "gimme" medal...

If your leadership cared you could atleast get a longevity medal.

The commendation medal isn't one to be easily handed out :)

Most of mine are from my deployment though.

laneholt, no, I don't plan to stay in... I never have and if I wanted to I couldn't. I'm disabled to the point that they wouldn't let me stay in.

Just giving you a hardtime. I can't give the AF TOOO much crap because my dad is a retired Major with 23 years in service. Ya, I'm like "fuck that"... I'm getting out in October

Where have you been on deployments? The Marine Corps only gives out medals for where you been to on deployment... I know other branches give out stupid medals for like... I don't know. For example, this last one in Afghanistan, I got my Combat Action Ribbon and another star on my Afghanistan Campaign Medal... nothing else.

Thanks Lane...I hope so too. If I was single I'd stay in... cross train into something more fulfilling job wise but it's not fair to the wife to goto Iraq/Afghan every other year.

I've pretty much been everywhere (well not literally) but ALL over Iraq. The Air Force refuses to give out Combat Action badges but I think it's horse shit. I've been in combat...but whatever.

Like on an actual patrol/convoy? Got shot at and returned fire? That's how they depict our "CAR"s. Not to be naive, but I just never thought AF got into combat situations. With the exception of aircraft.

Yeah I dont know what the hell they mean specifically but I do know you went to a hot ass desert and kicked some ass so my sorry ass could lay in my hammock and watch fireworks and not bombs.
That makes you and every other serviceman/woman badass in my book. Congrats!

Yes in Convoy operations.. that's all we did.

I've got several thousand miles of convoys through Iraq.

We are Air Force but work under the Army when we deploy. That's why I hated being in the AF because I do the Army job and get no credit for it because I am in the "chair force".... :laughing3:

Ok, I think we discussed this before I deployed sometime. I remember.

Well I'm glad you got the award man! It's just so crazy to see an E-4 [that's what Senior Airman is, right?] with that kind of stack... I mean, really? lol. Marines get jyped on medals. But oh well. I got a decent stack for 4 years.

When do you get out?
