random oil light

Post by Ntyvirus1 » Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:22 pm

pulled into a aprking space this morning and my oil light flicked on right as i put the car into park. no sign of a leak no weirdness, just the light came on. WEnt to class and after when i was leaving no light on startup, i was thinking about changing the oil just to be sure but wasnt sure if it was just my car being a neon.

The sending unit failure is fairly common. Usually they will leak, but it isn't a 100% of the time supporting symptom. You can either replace it, and hope that's all it is, or remove it, and put a gauge on to actually know what the pressure is at operating temp. If it is in spec, then replace the sender. Check the wire, to be sure it isn't chafing against a potential ground also.

Any resolution on this? Sometimes mine blinks on and off at start up and again when turning the car off.

connection at oil pressure sensor, bad sensor, or a failing oil pump. i'm going to assume you checked the oil level?
Yup it definately needs to go lower. If its not scrapeing constantly why you are driving then its not low enough bro.
Is the oil light come out during low engine rev? What kind oil you uses?

It happened to me before and I thicken the oil then it's gone. But sending unit error is probably the major cause.

Car has 135K miles on it. I use 5W30 conventional right now. I did use sythetic up to about 100K miles. It happens right after the car turns over and starts up. It comes on, the panel makes the quick ringing sound, and then it disappears.

I have not tried thicker oil though. I am in Oregon so no real temperature extremes and it is always in the garage overnight.
