Could be simple but...
This could be as simple as a dead battery but I'll give you the low down.
Was driving back from work today (very short trip, 3 miles) and my gauges went berserk. The speedometer was bouncing around and the dummy lights were blinking sporadically. This occurred about 2/3rds of the way though the ride home and only lasted a minute or two. At the same time this happend the radio shut off.
I got home, turned the car off for about 5 min, then when to go out again and...dead. Wont start, the dash odometer wont even light and the dome light is off.
Battery? Alternator? Something else? gremlins?
I did a search for this but there are waaaaay too many threads on cars not starting.

So it wasn't the IOD or alternator. It was a gremlin (aka my dad)!
It was simply miss communication. Last night my dad took out my battery (unannounced to me) to put it in my moms Neon to see if her battery was the problem on her car. When he put mine back he didn't tighten the positive cable all the way, it was very very loose. I guess when I hit a bump it knocked it even more loose and eventually wouldn't make a connection.
Tightened, problem solved
