Wiring battery shut off.

Post by Broken Glass » Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:22 pm

Hey guys, i need to get a quick reference for wiring a battery shut down. The batterys in the trunk, so i just run the switch in the battery cable, and then i get confused. I believe i have to run a wire directly from the alternator, to the opposite side of the switch, so that its permantly connected to the battery? thanks.

Like a disconnect switch? You have an electrical one or something? A "normal" one that goes in-line with a screw knob thingy, just replaces the regular terminal on the battery, and then your actual terminal attached onto that. Loosen the disconnect, and the battery is "disconnected."

No im talking about one thats mounted to the bumper for racing usage. I know the alternator must bypass the shut off to prevent damage, but im not sure exactly how.

Edit: I think i might have found it. Is the wire in this diagram coming directly from the body of the alternator? thanks

I don't know where else it would be coming from. The power wire only comes from one place on the alternator.
