pain in my Pa7007

Post by dcorwin822 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 1:11 pm

Well I'm getting quite annoyed at this retarded Neon, here's a list of crap I've done to it just so far this year. ( starred items were maint. items)
  • plugs * ( gf complaning about bad gas milage)

wires ( when doing the plugs the wires disintigrated when i tried pulling them from the plugs)

pre cat O2 senor * ( gf complaning about bad gas milage )

    t-belt * (103k on the clock)

waterpump * (103k on the clock)

    t-belt tens * (103k on the clock)

acc belt tensioner (found it to be very noisy when I was doing the t-belt)

radiator (trans cooler section leaked into the coolant and vise versa)

    transmission filter * (gen maint)

    trans fluid *

trans fluid ( Yes twice. When I replaced the radiator the trans was full of coolant so i had to do a flush and fill)
Well I'm just really glad I did all the work my self (saved a ton) and I've had good luck not blowing up any major components. I just want to know is there a end in sight? Is there?

No cursing in thread titles please - racer12306

Well it took you a 100 or so thousand miles to do those. So now you got a hundered more.

30/40 on the plugs and wires..

Well what prompted that rant was the car just broke down on me. The lower radiator hose developed a large leak around the clamp. Had to walk to a AZ and back (about 1/2 mile away) and fix the car in dress pants and shirt on the side of the highway. Used standard screw clamps and just tighted them the fluck down, used cheap Advanced 50/50 coolant and i'm back on the road. No white smoke out of the tail pipe so I don't think i warped the head.

Like you admitted yourself, most of that is general maintence for an economy car except for the radiator problem which isn't uncommon.

You could be driving something that gets 12 mpg, and spend that in less than 6 months....

Quit whining, and get used to it. You have a car with 103k miles on it that's AT LEAST 5 years old shits going to break. Oh and you forgot an oil change, within 3 months it probably ought have been done once

You should of done your homework before buying a car with over 100k miles because that's when Neons start to need all that stuff.

Don't fret. You should see what you have to replace at the 200k mark. Every wheel bearing will make noise, every bushing will be shot, every brake component will either leak or be seized, tie rods, ball joints, struts, upper strut mounts, transmissions, timing belts, water pumps, AC condensors, and more. All will go out at once. Then you'll fix those problems, and then hurry up and trade out the car, only to find that the car works great on a 50 shot from it's new owner...

All that stuff still costs less then a new car payment with full coverage insurance. So I dont see the problem.

Hopefully the girlfriend is paying you back with checks from The Bank of T&V. Tits and Vagina :)

Man drives neon, doesn't get laid. Man fixes woman's neon, and gets laid.

So now man needs to convince neon is hers, but man gets to drive it. But it breaks constantly.

Not worth it. She don't clean or maintain it, which, is probably why it breaks down.

I don't keep track of what I dump into my car for maintenance nor mods per se... If I did it would be discouraging and I want to enjoy the hobby because I'm a car guy. Like the others have said, it's regular maintenance and will last a good bit longer.

You think that is bad? Here is my list...

-both front drive axles
-both front wheel bearings
-head gasket leaking coolant externally, fixed
-replaced camshaft due to pitting
-replace battery
-fixed clip in drivers door as key would just turn
-replaced pipe from exhaust manifold down including
cat converter
-alignment
-both O2 sensors replaced
-replaced both drive belts

Also was not all that long ago I had the following done:

-replaced radiator
-replaced all coolant hoses
-replaced coolant pipes under intake
-replaced t-stat & t-stat housing
-replaced water pump
-new timing belt
-new cam & crank seals
-new tensioner
-replaced oil pan gasket
-replaced cam sensor gasket
-new tires all around

Unless something major happens and the vehicle becomes un-drivable I am done sinking more money into my almost 10 year old Neon. It gets driven about 4 miles/day during the week. Weekends I stay at home and let the Neon sit.

I'm saving to get something newer... perhaps new.

The Ford Fusion has my interest at the moment.
