install bigger fuel pump and injectors, install standalone and run wizzard. IMO, screw regulators...get a programmable computer and never look back againnodestiny wrote:Is there a good write up on how to take our nice little 2nd gens and turbo them from scratch? Standalone=$450(for megasquirt) hard to tune and you have to install an external crank trigger for 03+.
... gee I wonder why people use regulators

because they are cheap and are fooled by the false sense of security maybe?? i wonder why those people make less power less reliably and then they wonder why their shit blew up...i know that all too well. and btw, standalones have a nice wizzard button that does most of the work for you, and will allow you to monitor and tune your car as you go. lets see, dummy lights vs real live monitoring with error reporting and everything.. i think you know which one i'd pickNovajoe wrote:Regulator= $180-240 and easy to tunerice_eater wrote:install bigger fuel pump and injectors, install standalone and run wizzard. Re: Is there a how-to DIY turbo setup?
most people do not need a standalone for a low power system. I know several people that have a reliable setup running with a FMU.rice_eater wrote:because they are cheap and are fooled by the false sense of security maybe?? i wonder why those people make less power less reliably and then they wonder why their shit blew up...i know that all too well. and btw, standalones have a nice wizzard button that does most of the work for you, and will allow you to monitor and tune your car as you go. lets see, dummy lights vs real live monitoring with error reporting and everything.. i think you know which one i'd pickNovajoe wrote:Regulator= $180-240 and easy to tunerice_eater wrote: install bigger fuel pump and injectors, install standalone and run wizzard. Megasquirt is overkill for the average turbo neon. If you wanna make mad power (id say 300+ range) then its worth it.
